Realtime, in an RP sense, is playing the game where the dates coincide with the dates in the real world. The current state of Kokoro is a good example of this.
The advantages are a lack of plot holes and loose stories that never get finished, as well as a fuller understanding of one's character, as the player does not have to jump around points in the development. However, an episodic game is best for something with an epic story-- players tend to be dragged away from the computer at the worst of times, which can cause more plot holes in an attempt to write around exits, entries and time skips. This is why Kokoro became a slice-of-life story... although it does jump around genres a lot.
