During the Grand Marshal coninuity, there are at least two battles on the surface of Yavin 4 itself.

Second Battle of Yavin

The first of these was documented in Grand Marshal Trilogy: The Remnant Threat, after a futile attempt to destroy the moon by the Grand Marshal.

This followed the rescue of Luke Skywalker by Leia Organa and Han Solo from the Third Death Star, the subsequent capture of the fully armed but not yet operational battlestation by Rebel Alliance forces, and the expulsion of Imperial forces from there.

The vengeful Marshal ordered all Imperial escape craft to invade Yavin 4, and to destry as much of the ancient temple there. This, he said, would leave a mark on the New Republic that could never be washed off. The trip between the Death Star and Yavin 4 was quickly made by Lambda-class shuttles, among other transports.

The first Imperial charge, assisted with AT-RTs among other light support, was incredibly sucessful, destroying several New Republic lines of defence. However, this supposed Alliance 'weakness' was merely a ploy to trap Imperial forces inside an ancient hut prieviously inhabited by the Gree.

Once the Imperials ran into the solid stone hut, they found themselves surrounded by Rebels. Among these were several Force-sensetives that Luke had recently recruited as the elite force of the New Republic. Needless to say, there was a massive massacre of Imperial troops.

The Grand Marshal attempted to escape in an Imperial shuttle, but was dispatched by Han ,Leia, and Luke. This body, however, was discovered by Han and Leia to be a double.

Third Battle of Yavin

This battle was one of the final steps in another insidious plot by Adenla Darasuum, the Grand Marshal, to destroy the fledgling New Republic, and is documented in Grand Marshal Trilogy: Wrath of the Marshal.

After grievously wounding Luke Skywalker in Anchorhead and distracting him from the invasion there, he personally accompanied his fleet of Yavin 4, knowing that the fight on Hoth would not be won, even with his presence.

The strategy was first to constantly orbit the planet with Imperial ships, in order to prevent Rebels from escaping, and also to strategically bomb locations that were found difficult to pass. Before long, Imperial troops started pouring from the destroyers and frigates to mass near the Rebel base.

Through a series of feints, the Rebels were thrown into confusion, and were utterly unable to withstand the final push of Imperials through the heavy oaken doors of the Jedi Artifact Archives/Temple. The Grand Marshal's two Hands finished off many of the Force-sensetives protecting the Rebels attempting to flee to the opposite side of the planet.

Stormtroopers were able to retrieve the skeleton of Darth Andeddu, an artifact the Grand Marshal would evantually use. Darasuum proceeded to attack the last members of the newly-formed Jedi Order, including Deuv Thw'ro and Yarn Sarka.

Most of the ruling Alliance members survived, but Deuv was forced to watch as Yarn was killed by Storm Commander SK-1618. He would escape with her body to the Millenium Falcon, and promise revenge on the Grand Marshal.

The Third Battle of Yavin was a massive Imperial victory, with no prisoners taken; all Rebel troops that had died, died in combat.
