CHAPTER ONE
The space above the forest moon of Yavin 4 was quiet that early morning. Traffic had yet to build up and the spceway was literally empty bar a few crafts, including a lone A-wing, on New Republic Patrol.
"Jake, this shift is horrible!" an A-Wing pilot complained over com-link to his friend, in another A-Wing nearby.
"Not only do we get deprived of some sleep, nothing really happens as well! At least the pay is not bad..." Jake agreed, sighing. He seemed to forget that only some time ago, he was involved in a dramatic space battle for the new Death Star, now the "Hope Beacon" New Republic space station which loomed, albeit comfortingly, in the background.
The two were about to complete thjeir sixtieth orbit of the planet though, as they were on a patrol misson, had to forfeit the use of the ship's massively powerful sub-light and hyper-drive engines. The weak armanent of the craft also seemed to be obsolete on this trip.
Suddenly, the other pilot's eyes grew wide. "Jake, I don't know if I've not slept for too long," he spoke into the comlink, "but you have to see this!"
Approaching towards the two crafts, just avoiding the space staion's detection, were hard to make out yet distinct shapes. Shapes pf doom. An Imperial shuttle flanked by TIE Interceptors on either side. They seemed to be in no hurry, but quickly became more clearly visble.
"Oh my..." Jake's response was interrupted by a single powerful bolt. The last thing he ever would see. The vicious projectile tore through the ship with unbelievable strength and savage. The bolt, amazingly, continued on its path, striking the other A-Wing whose orbit had just overlapped with its companion, before finally disappearing, though leaving it's damage behind for all to see. Small fragments of twisted steel and tiny fragments of electronic parts.
