| Subject: Gold Mine The gold mine is the most important building you can have. Concentrate on upgrading it more than anything else.
You'll need all your resource mines to be level 20... Or you'll never even have a hope in hell of competing with other players.
See the resources given per hour list above... Remember - the longer the isle takes to get up and running the longer you're vulnerable.
|}
| Subject: Constant Army Constant production of an army is the only way you'll ever be able to defend yourself. If you order a lot of units - you'll be able to build other buildings as well. But not building units to build buildings is a mistake.
No army means no defence... No defence means what's stopping people from attacking you?
The constant army rule is a must for anyone with colonies. Don't rely on personal pacts or your alliance to defend you, do it yourself.
|}
| Subject: Annoying Players Not everyone is nice in this game. Send someone too many messages - too often and they may just destroy you for it. Use correct English and decent grammar - it'll help represent you when you talk to them.
Don't overreact and don't fly off the handle when something bad happens.
|}
| Subject: Being Spied Upon If someone spies on you you'll see a message on the overview screen saying: A fleet from the isle ... is spying on your isle! With the time that the spy ship is due to arrive...
So you know someone is spying on you, now what do you do? Don't overreact - if you know they're spying on you it means the espionage has failed. A failed espionage tells them nothing about your isle. And you don't have to do anything at all.
So they have to spy again - or they just give up and move on elsewhere.
Do not send your fleet away to make you appear weaker - that'll make them more likely to attack.
If you know they're spying on you... The espionage has failed - congratulations, they don't know about your isle.
If you don't know they're spying on you, it's one of two things... The espionage has worked for them - or there hasn't been any espionages...
You may wish to send the person the message: "Hello... I notice you're spying on my isle... Could you tell me why?"
|}
| Subject: Colonisation Fleet When colonising you should send *atleast* 10 large warships, and 50 units of your choice... So your attack offense will be:
1 * 100 // 1 colonisation ship 10 * 100 = 1000 // 10 large warships 50 * 10 = 500 // 50 stonethrowers 50 * 20 = 1000 // 50 spearfighters 50 * 40 = 2000 // 50 archers
And your attack defence will be:
1 * 100 // 1 colonisation ship 10 * 100 = 1000 // 10 large warships 50 * 10 = 500 // 50 stonethrowers 50 * 30 = 1500 // 50 spearfighters 50 * 20 = 1000 // 50 archers
Total attack = 1000 + (500 to 2000) + 100 = 3000 offense... Total defence = 1000 + (500 to 1500) + 100 = 2600 defence...
Anything less is risky. *Never* send the colonisation ship on its own.
|}
| Subject: Main House For your main isle - when you're reasonably happy with your resources - you can upgrade the main house. I see no reason to upgrade it much beyond level 10 though.
A level 15 main house does not protect your isle... A level 20 main house does not protect your isle....
I see players do it all the time - "But a main house level 12 will help me keep the colony better than a main house level 10..." Wrong, catapults can do a lot of damage and even a main house level 1000 will eventually fall. (Note: The maximum level of any building (apart from the storehouse) is level 20... A main house level 1000 is purely theoretical...)
For a new colony - upgrade the main house to level two straight away. Before *any* other building...
If you want to defend your colony from being taken - actually defend it - see constant army.
Each building at level 20 takes around 25 catapults to destroy. So some people feel it is worth building a level 20 main house - so that it takes them 25 catapults to destroy it. I'll concede that you might want to build a level 20 main house - eventually - but not straight away...
|}
| Subject: Fleet A fleet is really important. If someone spies on you and finds out you have a small fleet... What's to stop them from attacking you?
As long as you can inflict damage on them - they should leave you alone.
|}
| Subject: Diplomacy Be polite, don't make idle threats. Get your facts straight.
I love the following found in someone's personal info: "Literacy will count for a lot in how I respond to anything you send me so please try and use full words and sentences."
Text speak - like substituting "you" for "u" and "r" for "are" - etc will make you seem lazy. If you can't be bothered to speak to the person as best as you possibly can, don't speak to them. Do not use numbers as part of a word. For example "m8" instead of "mate" or using "4" for the word "for"...
Also, remember to use punctuation... And a newline every so often couldn't hurt... That means commas, full stops and a question mark if you want them to tell you something. Avoid using too many exclamation marks - you don't want to appear to be shouting.

Subject: Build Order What buildings to build - and in what order?
On your main isle - you want to concentrate on the resource mines before anything else.
On a new colony - the first building you want to upgrade is the main house to level two - before anything else.
Then upgrade the resource mines as needed. Upgrade the storehouse as needed as well.
To decide which upgrade you need... Think to yourself which resource you need the most to complete the next upgrade of the gold mine...
You should aim to get the gold mine to level 20 before any other building reaches level 20. Buildings Main House (Level 1) Gold Mine (Level 12) Stone Quarry (Level 10) Lumber Mill (Level 10) Storehouse (Level 4) Watch-Tower (Level 1) At some point when building your resource mines - you'll find you have excess gold - hopefully. At this point you want to upgrade the main house to level 5 - and build a barracks.
You can then build stonethrowers. Buildings Main House (Level 5) Gold Mine (Level 17) Stone Quarry (Level 13) Lumber Mill (Level 14) Barracks (Level 1) Storehouse (Level 6) Watch-Tower (Level 1) Later - you'll find you start to have excess lumber - again, hopefully. At this point you want to upgrade the main house to level 10 - and build a laboratory level 1 and a harbour level 1.
Build the laboratory before the harbour. Since you need to research sail level 1 before you can build boats. Buildings Main House (Level 10) Gold Mine (Level 20) Stone Quarry (Level 15) Lumber Mill (Level 17) Laboratory (Level 1) Barracks (Level 1) Harbour (Level 1) Storehouse (Level 7) Watch-Tower (Level 1) Now you want to start researching spear/shield and upgrade the barracks to level 5 and build spearfighters... Buildings Main House (Level 10) Gold Mine (Level 20) Stone Quarry (Level 15) Lumber Mill (Level 20) Laboratory (Level 1) Barracks (Level 5) Harbour (Level 1) Storehouse (Level 7) Stonewall (Level 10) Watch-Tower (Level 5) Hopefully the isle is more or less finished now... For good measure we upgrade the barracks, harbour, storehouse, stonewall and watch-tower now... Buildings Main House (Level 10) Gold Mine (Level 20) Stone Quarry (Level 15) Lumber Mill (Level 20) Laboratory (Level 1) Barracks (Level 20) Harbour (Level 10) Storehouse (Level 10) Stonewall (Level 20) Watch-Tower (Level 20) Eventually you'll want to build colonisation ships - so we need to upgrade the harbour and storehouse again... Also - since we have a level 20 barracks we can consider building archers now - so we upgrade the laboratory too. Buildings Main House (Level 10) Gold Mine (Level 20) Stone Quarry (Level 15) Lumber Mill (Level 20) Laboratory (Level 5) Barracks (Level 20) Harbour (Level 20) Storehouse (Level 20) Stonewall (Level 20) Watch-Tower (Level 20) You may feel differently about the build order - but this essentially works for me.
Generally though - you should always build level 20 storehouse before level 20 harbour. It's impossible to build a colonisation ship before you have a level 20 storehouse. So you might as well get the level 20 storehouse before the level 20 harbour...
Also - only build the laboratory to level 15 if and when you can afford to build catapults more often... If you can only afford to build one catapult a day - you don't need two isles that can produce catapults. So only research catapult as needed.

| Subject: Which Army Unit To Build Which army unit should you build?
I think it's a choice between spearfighters and archers... Here's the calculations I'm going on... The time used is based on a level 20 barracks...
stonethrowers: 0:18:36 (18*60) + 36 = 1116 seconds each
spearfighters: 0:31:01 (31*60) + 1 = 1861 seconds each
archers: 0:43:25 (43*60) + 25 = 2605 seconds each
(24*60*60)/1116 = 77.41 (24*60*60)/1861 = 46.42 (24*60*60)/2605 = 33.16
Which means you can build...
77 stonethrowers a day 46 spearfighters a day 33 archers a day
Which means you get attack (atk) and defense (def) of...
stonethrowers: 77 * 10 = 770 atk, 77 * 10 = 770 def spearfighters: 46 * 20 = 920 atk, 46 * 30 = 1380 def archers: 33 * 40 = 1320 atk, 33 * 20 = 660 def
77 stonethrowers a day = 770+770 = 1540 46 spearfighters a day = 920+1380 = 2300 33 archers a day = 1320+660 = 1980
So per day - you get 2300 atk+def using spearfighters and only 1980 atk+def using archers...
Therefore - spearfighters are best.
Also though, the cost per constant production per day...
77 * 50 = 3850 46 * 80 = 3680 33 * 100 = 3300
Which puts stonethrowers as the most costly - then spearfighters and archers actually being the cheapest... (306*24) - 3850 = 3494 / 900 = 3.88 (306*24) - 3680 = 3664 / 900 = 4.07 (306*24) - 3300 = 4044 / 900 = 4.49
Which means - you can afford 3 - 4 large warships a day depending on the type of army you build...
|}
| Subject: Which Merchant Ship To Build Should you build small merchant ships - or large merchant ships?
Easy answer - small merchant ships. Large merchant ships are too slow.
|}
| Subject: Which Warship To Build Should you build small warships - or large warships?
Easy answer - large warships. Always use large warships for attacking - because you get more units per large warship. And large warships can carry catapults.
Uses for small warships: Transporting stonethrowers quickly... Spying on people...
|}
| Subject: Catapults How many catapults should I have?
Simple rule of thumb - more large warships than catapults. A large warship costs 900 gold, 800 lumber. A catapult costs 5000 gold, 2500 stone, 4000 lumber.
A large warship gives 100 atk, 100 def. A catapult gives 500 atk, 250 def.
One catapult is roughly the cost of 5.5 large warships...
5 large warships = 5 * 100 = 550 atk, 5.5 * 100 = 550 def 1 catapult = 1 * 500 = 500 atk, 1 * 250 = 250 def
So large warships are most cost effective than catapults.
|}
| Subject: Stonethrowers How many stonethrowers should I have?
Hmmm.
|}
| Subject: Fleet Saving Sometimes when you see an attack coming towards you - and you know you're going to lose you do what's called "fleet saving"... i.e. Send your fleet to attack a low scoring isle - preferably unowned and you save your fleet from damage from the attacking force. Can be a good idea - if they didn't send any catapults - or a bad idea... It's an option though.
|}
| Subject: Fleet Catching If you colonise an isle while someone's fleet is out - that fleet returns to you and you get their fleet. This is called fleet catching - and if you can pull it off you'll get a really good isle - with fleet.
You can even steal an isle that someone was using a fleet from to colonise another isle... If the colonisation is successful - you get two isles - since the fleet is yours the moment you take the isle.
|}
| Subject: Isles Colors When you click on the "Isles" page - you'll see green bars on the side... Green means "everything okay - no-one attacking you..."
If it turns red - that isle is being attacked... Red means "oh dear, panic..." Oh wait - don't panic - stay calm and think why they're attacking you...
You may wish to message them and ask why they're attacking you... But remember - profanity gets you nowhere...
|}
|
Subject: Fleet Speeds / Sizes You can tell what speed a fleet is doing when it's coming towards your isle by clicking on your watch tower. Any distance away it'll tell you the speed of the fleet. Roughly 10% in range of your watchtower - it'll tell you the number of ships in the fleet.
(Note - you can't see inside the ships - so you don't know if there's catapults or army or not...)
For example... Transport from ... (XX:XX:XX) Distance 14,6 Nautical Miles Speed 3 Knots Arrival 08.02.2006 03:33:12 We know it's a transport - but we don't know the fleet it's using because it's not close enough yet...
Here's another exampe... Transport from ... (XX:XX:XX) Distance 1,1 Nautical Miles Speed 5 Knots Arrival 07.02.2006 22:59:14 Ships Large Warship 15 Small Warship 5 Small Merchant Ship 5 Since it's close - we know what's in the fleet.
Knowing what's in the fleet could help you decide what to do if someone's attacking you.
Knowing what speed the fleet is tells you what's in the fleet... 2 knots = colonisation ship 3 knots = small merchant ships 4 knots = small merchant ships / large warships / large merchant ships / army 5 knots = small merchant ships / large warships / army / catapults 6 knots = small warships / army Bear in mind that the fleet travels at the speed of the slowest ship in the fleet.
|}
| Subject: Statue What does the statue do? First, a level 1 statue unlocks a level 30 storehouse... Which could be useful to build.
How to build a statue... Complete all buildings to level 20... Complete all research to level 10... Then statue is unlocked...
A level 2 - 20 statue doesn't appear to do anything but give you points.
Theories of what it does: 1. Makes it harder to spy on your isle...
2. Absorbs "random catapult damage" from catapult attacks...
Random catapult damage is when you attack an isle - and tell it to hit a certain building... And that building gets destroyed and the catapults then go "wild" and attack other buildings randomly.
A level 20 statue is equilivent to 7000 spearfighters, 5600 archers or 112 catapults... Your isle will be much safer with the 7000 spearfighters than it would be with the level 20 statue.
So should I build a statue? No.
