-- SYNOPSIS: The Graduate Assistantship Program offers a limited number of stipends to currently enrolled graduate and professional students who have completed at least one year of graduate study. The stipend is $3,500 for a ten-week, forty-hour-per-week term. Graduate assistantships are available for the summer session only.

• Graduate and Undergraduate Internships: Asia Catalyst

-- Asia Catalyst seeks graduate and undergraduate interns for the spring 2008 semester. Interns will assist with our groundbreaking work with grassroots human rights and social justice groups in China and Southeast Asia.

-- Asia Catalyst (http://www.asiacatalyst.org/) is a New York-based nonprofit that partners with activists in Asia to inspire, create and launch innovative, self-sustaining programs and organizations that advance human rights, social justice and environmental protection. We link up Asian community leaders, journalists, activists, and lawyers with each other and with international experts who can help them to realize their visions. We incubate programs that may be too risky or innovative for established organizations to take on. We strategize with international organizations to develop creative, effective campaigns for social justice in Asia.

-- We currently seek interns to work on the following:

-Legal research: Help to research and design a certification course for Chinese lawyers on HIV/AIDS and the law;

-Build transnational networks: Help to develop a website that connects Chinese grassroots nonprofits with similar groups working in other parts of Asia;

-Strengthening grassroots groups: Develop pamphlets, handbooks and comic books on NGO management that can be used by grassroots Chinese nonprofits;

-Organize events: Coordinate "Asia Catalyzers", an exciting series of events on human rights and social justice in Asia that will build a community of professionals and students in New York City;

-Nonprofit management: Develop management skills by assisting with administration and fundraising for the organization.

-- Applicants should be self-starters, passionate about social justice, should have some background in Asia, and should work well independently. We especially seek applicants with either research skills, web design skills, fluency in Chinese language, or event planning experience. The period of the internship is from mid-January to April and it is expected that an intern will spend 10-15 hours a week on the selected project, including a mandatory weekly staff meeting. Interns must be based in the U.S., but will generally work from home. The internship is unpaid. University credit may be arranged.

Graduate students and recent graduates are invited to apply for a limited number of short-term positions with The Asia Foundation. The Junior Associates program is now in its second year. -- Professional Development Opportunity: Summer 2007 Program: The Asia Foundation invites graduate students and recent graduate degree holders to apply for a limited number of opportunities as Junior Associates in Asian Affairs in the Foundation�s offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. These short-term affiliations are to further the professional development of individuals specifically interested in Asia. Successful applicants will gain further knowledge of the region and an understanding of the Foundation�s work through specific assignments such as the following: conducting research; contributing to proposal development; assisting with the design and implementation of programs; preparing reports on Foundation projects; and other tasks as needed. Associates may be invited for full or part-time positions for three months (June-August) during the summer with a monthly stipend.

-- THE ASIA FOUNDATION: The Asia Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to the development of a peaceful, prosperous, open, and just Asia-Pacific region. The Foundation supports programs in Asia that help improve governance and law, women's empowerment, economic reform and development, and international relations. Drawing on over 50 years of experience in Asia, the Foundation collaborates with private and public partners to support leadership and institutional development, exchanges, and policy research. With a network of 17 field offices in Asia, an office in Washington, D.C., and its headquarters in San Francisco, the Foundation addresses these issues on both a country and regional level.

-- ASSOCIATE QUALIFICATIONS: Positions for the summer are expected to be very competitive. We are seeking talented, high-energy individuals who will benefit from their affiliation with the Foundation and contribute to the organization as well. Two to three Junior Associates positions are available in San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

-- Candidates should have the following:

• Graduate student status or recent graduate degree
• Graduate studies in Asia-related areas; international relations; international development; public administration; public policy; and law, political science, economics, or sociology with work experience in Asia
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Good computer skills

• Princeton-in-Asia (PiA)

-- PiA offers paid, one- or two-year internship placements in 15 Asian countries. PiA is affiliated with Princeton University. The program has fees, though they are very low. Applicants must be willing to go for an interview in Princeton, New Jersey.

-- PiA expects to offer approximately 90 one- or two-year paid internships in 15 Asian countries: China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

-- Most PiA positions involve teaching English in universities and high schools, but PiA also offers the following kinds of non-teaching positions, according to a recent message from PiA's Director.

1) NGOs -- in China, East Timor, Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. They are with international NGOs doing work in the field of public health, HIV/AIDs, conservation, and micro-credit.

2) Media Positions: Hong Kong, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam

3) Business Positions: positions with finance companies in Thailand, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Vietnam, and China. Law firm position in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
