Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani is the most senior cleric within Iraq's Shi'ite's Islam and has played a vital role in the occupation of Iraq since 2003. He issued fatwa's to Shi'ite's not to oppose the US-led invasion of the country, and has since then played an increasingly influential role in the country's politics.
