A number of recipes have already been added to the Elia wiki. The following guide will help keep all recipes in a consistent format and will help you add new recipes to the wiki.

Getting Started: Adding The Recipe

Recipes on this site are named by author and dish. For example: Marie Barbarossa's Pasta And Beans. Because other Elias might have different pasta and bean recipes, it is important to title the recipe as specifically as possible. To add a new recipe, settle on the title of the recipe.

The easiest way to create a new page is to first create a link to the empty page. The best place to do this is on the author's biography. If you are adding a new recipe by Marie Barbarossa, go to her biography and edit the section called "Recipes". (If no Recipes section exists yet, edit the section called "Synopsis of Dates" and, below the dates, create the Recipes section. It will look like this:

Recipes
*Marie Barbarossa's Pasta And Beans
*Marie Barbarossa's Meatballs

The double equals signs makes the Recipes section. The asterisk makes a "bullet". The double brackets creates a link to the recipe page. Type in the new recipe after the ones already listed (or type in the first recipe) then click "Save page". The recipe you've added will appear in red. Click on the link. This will create the page, and allow you to type in the recipe.

Typing In The Recipe

A recipe should have 3 sections: Ingredients, Directions, and Attribution. It should also be placed into the proper category (see next section).

An ingredients list will look something like this:

Ingredients
*1 c. margarine
*2 c. sugar
*4 eggs

This will make a bulleted list of ingredients. The Directions section will have 1-3 paragraphs describing the steps in the recipe. The Attribution section should identify the author of the recipe (the Elia who popularized it in the family), as well as any other attributions necessary. For example:

Attribution
Submitted by: Marie Barbarossa

Notes on attribution: This recipe was modified from Mary Elia's recipe. It is best served with pasta.

The double brackets will be a link to the biography.

Categorize The Recipe

Recipes should end with a "category tag" that places the recipe in the right group. You can also use mulitple category tags if a recipe would fit into more than one category. For example, Michele Hansen's Pineapple Casserole has the following category tags:

Cetogroy:Dessert Recipes

These just go at the very end of the recipe after the attributions. While it is possible to create new categories if necessary, try to fit the recipe into one of the following:

Checklist

To be sure your recipe is "finished", use the following checklist:

 • Recipe has three sections (Ingredients, Directions, Attribution)
 • Recipe has one or more category tags (established categories will turn the category link blue after saving)
 • Recipe is linked to from the author's biography
 • You can find the biography listed in its category (look for it in the online Recipe Book)
