They were married at St. Anthony's RC Church in Union City, NJ on May 9, 1964 and moved to Highland Park, NJ. It was there that their first child, Patricia Anne (Tricia) was born in 1965, then Michael in 1967. John, Jr. was born in Sayreville, NJ in 1970.

Before moving to Sayreville, the couple lived in Jersey City, NJ for a couple of years. After John, Jr. started to attend school, Mary returned to work and held various positions at JC Penney, Reflections Gift Shop and Brookdale Community College. Mary retired from BCC in June of 1999 where she was a buyer and head cashier. She and John live down at the Jersey shore in Ocean, NJ,where they moved to in 1994.

John grew up with two sisters, Mary and Eileen (who died in 1981) and a brother, Peter, who eventually married Rose Elia, sister of Mary Elia. Except for two years in the United States Army (stationed in Wurzburg, Germany) and two years with a small publishing company, he spent his entire business career with The McGraw-Hill Companies, retiring from their Standard and Poor's division in April, 1998. Since retiring he has taken up fishing, enjoys reading novels and enjoys the company of new friends that he met when he moved to the Jersey shore.
