You quietly tiptoe towards the door, careful not to make any loud noises on the old wooden floor.
Maybe the reason why father removed the carpeting of your room is to let him know if you're up too early during weekends (his room is directly above yours), but you don't care. You've done this lots of times before so you have already memorized all the creaky parts of the floor.
Arriving at the doorway of your bedroom, you place your ears on the door, listening for any suspicious sounds.
When you're satisfied at hearing nothing, you carefully open the door, trying not to make a sound. Good thing Henry oiled the doors a few days ago.
But to your surprise, instead of finding the hallway empty, you find 3 of your father's guard dogs sleeping in front of your room. If you make any movements, they might wake up and alarm everyone. And you can't risk detection again.
Sighing in defeat, you close your door and jump back to bed.
Well, that's for your blunder last week.
