Wdyw/Pick a more beginner bike
From Create Your Own Story
The Harley is beautiful, but you would rather take a hit to your pride than die today. You make up the excuse that you are looking for a bike for your son, who is just starting out. The dealer gives you a skeptical look but is interested in your business nonetheless. He takes you the Hondas and shows you an older model. It will do. He hands you the keys and lets you know there is a tracker on the bike so you can't steal it. You start it up remembering all those tips from the countless manuals you have read. The engine churns loudly and you are off. It is even greater than those wonderful descriptions online. The wind is hugging you from all sides, wrapping you in its chilly embrace. You can hear your breathing in the claustrophobic helmet and see the flashing lights of street lamps whipping through your vision. You don't feel comfortable weaving in and out of cars, so you stay in your lane. You know you have to go back to the lot, so you take a U-turn and head back. The dealer is standing there and when you pull the helmet over your head, he notices your smile. You hadn't even realized it yourself, but then notice your cheeks are hurting. Had you been smiling the whole time?
"First time?" The dealer asks, but you can tell he already knows. He has seen that face before.
You nod and smile at the ground. Your adrenaline is still bursting out of your body and your heart is thumping like bass drum in your chest. "That was amazing" you think to yourself. You buy the bike right then and there. The dealer removes the tracker and even fills the gas all the way for you. He hands you the keys and you are off. You head to the freeway and within moments of walking off the lot, you are speeding down the road at 70mph. You can feel your skin pulling against your bones as if you are leaving it behind. The roar of the engine fades out in your mind and its just silence in your brain despite the chaos around you. It is a peace you have never experienced before. You realize the sun is setting, how long have you been driving? You check your gas gauge and it is almost to empty. You take the next exit and realize you are hours away from your house. You only have $5 in your wallet and your bank account is almost empty from buying this bike. You can't get home.
