You get up and continue walking. The moon lights your path clearly, and you walk all through the cold night.
In the morning, you are exhausted, hungry, and parched. There is still no sign of food or water, except the way you came. The forest has receded a bit, and the shadow on the horizon has become a bit more distinct. It looks like a brownish-green smear.
After a couple of hours, you feel as if you can walk no more. Your feet are red gobs of numbness. Your sunburn has gotten worse. Then you see a cloud of gray smoke coming from down the road.
