The northern mountains are only inhabited by those who are strong enough to survive the hostile environment. The mountain range stretches to the northeast along the cost to the west and the various nations to the east. In the far north it ends by another sea. The population survives by living in the valleys and fjords along the coast line. Those along the coast line are more prosperous since the sea gives them access to trade and fishing. Each town is ruled by their own chieftain and violent clashes between the communities are a daily part of life.

You ride in haste towards the north and do not feel comfortable until you are traveling along the mountain road. Steep cliffs on your right and the mountain wall to your left. Here the snow has yet to melt. Standing by the edge you look down the cliff and get delirious from the height. Small rocks are sent tumbling down and the horse gets nervous. You calm him and continue on.

Night falls and a snow storm blows up. You are able to block out the cold mentally, at least a little. It’s the cliffs your more worried about. In the dark, stormy weather it’s nearly impossible to make out the edge. You travel fearing that the next step your horse takes could be your doom.

Finally you make it to a crossroad. By now the cold has worn you down. Chilling winds nudge away your body heat. It’s quite alarming feeling your body go limb. You cannot do anything about it, in battle a man controls his destiny but battling the cold is something completely different, something far more terrifying.

Two roads lay before you, one to the right, and one to the left. The one on the right leads downwards while the one to the left continues along the mountain pass. There are no signs to be seen. What do you do?
