From Create Your Own Story

Revision as of 23:40, 3 February 2010 by Robin (Talk | contribs)

Since this page has become rather cluttered, I've moved old discussions to the archive page below. Feel free to leave new messages here. I'll get back to you ASAP!

Hi you sent me a message before on putting the status bar into stories I edit, can you give me a link to a tutorial on tha? Beacause I'm not sure where that is in the help section. Thanks a bunch! INferno77

New Contributor

Hey, I am completely new to the site and was wondering what you thought about my contribution in the War & Sex storyline?
Thank you for linking my page to the index too btw, I am just a starter after all and am still getting used to everything.
Please get back to me with comments and suggestions as I do not want to "rock the boat." Haha hope to hear from you soon.

I'm more than happy to follow you're guidelines but you weren't very specific about what you didn't like. I am
new to site, so bear with me. How did I deviate from the story style for one thing, I thought I followed it quite accuratley
from what I had read until that point. The page your reffering to that was a dead end, I was going to finish editing it
actually, it wasn't finished, I was going to have him go back to his apartment. (the arc had to logically end at some point,
but I realised you probly didn't want me to end the story). I didn't finish since I had to eat dinner lol. Also, my grammar
is fine and if anything only needs minor editing. What structuring? You mean text codes? How are they wrong?
Anyhoo, hope you get back to me,
    Numenorean

          - Dear Platypus,
We, the users behind "Hey its", would like to thank you for the unban. We promise
not to be abusive to others' stories or the site - yes, other users' stories have unlimited possibilities,
but it adds that special zazz to ours. We would like to call a truce between us, and an agreement for you to leave our edits
alone or a notification of said edit.
       Thank you,
          Jim's Barbeque
          - Dear Platypus,
In regards to your last message: we are not trying to annoy you nor draw your wrathful ire. Our underlying plot
simply drew itself, unbidden, from the path we had intended it to take, and those involved in the wrongful tainting of this fine
site's front page have been forcibly restrained from accessing the account. To give a short little tantalizing taste
of our grand scheme, our connection to other stories is like the intertwining of supporting chains that come together in unity to
form a massive bridging masterpiece. But we are not acting upon a roguish, free-form method; nay, for graceful
and generous contact is made between the affected and ourselves, in one way or another. Those who have coldly abandoned
the loving, harmonious community supporting this website are subject only to the most subtle, unassuming involvement
that tarnishes not any name, in any one's opinion. Your contact with us is invaluable to our cause, and we would be subject
to only the finest honour if you were to keep in touch with any further snags along this fine road we trod.
       Thank you,
          Jim's Barbeque
          - Dear Platypus,
We are extremely thankful for the revival of our long sought-after story page. While we respectfully disagree that it does not
belong in "World's End", we agree to not repost it within that story.
       Thank you,
          Jim's Barbeque

Deletions Requested

Sorry about the little mess, but I prefer the hyphen over the slash. Anyway, here are the blanked pages:

Oh and if I can ever make it easier on you by doing something differently (still getting the hang of CYOA, not to mention wiki-editing in general), don't hesitate to point out my noobery. I obviously don't need to invite you to change anything that... well, that you would change anyway, haha. Thanks! NightChime 03:00, 19 October 2009 (PDT)

Please Contribute more!

You're probably the user that is on this site the most and are really creative, can you please contribute more to my story, "High School?"(Just not Gothic male or female please!)

Thanks--Gr1mm

EDIT: Hey, there is something I would like you to do on my High School story. the link is here: *"Um, well I thought we were going to....Well....You know....Do it...." you say nervously and embarassed. It's the ONLY thing (so far) that I would like you to do on goth. I chose you, because you're incredibly descriptive, you're good at writing all the sex and stuff, and you're pretty much one of the only trustworthy people on here. You can also edit any other page that branches off of that little page(if you know what I mean; I'm not good at explaining). I think it would be pretty cool if you used one of the props already in equipment. (it's in Bold Italic) And weird stuff could happen, like their eyeliner, or their lipstick smears and stuff. And if you want, Allison can use anything she has in her room (Use your imagination ;) ). And If it wouldn't bother you, you could do both points of view, from Jace's and Allison's point of view. It'll also show you what's already in her inventory. (Allison's point of view:*"Um, well I thought we were going to....Well....You know....Do it...." Jace asks nervously.)Please, if you get this, leave me a comment on my discussions page.

Thanks--Gr1mm

Hey Platypus

Hey platypus. You know my story, 13 years. While it may not be a CYOA, I don't know where else to put it. So even though it doesn't belong here, can I continue doing it? PLEEASSSE? With a cherry on top(lol)?--Blablob 06:25, 17 October 2009 (PDT)

Okay, well about the 13 years topic, I'll fix it tomorrow. I will add choices instead, so no worries.--Blablob 17:00, 17 October 2009 (PDT)

Telling when a story was last worked on

Is there a way to tell when a story was last added to? I want to do a bit of maintenance and move some stories into the Pit of Abandoned Stories, but unless I check every page, it's hard to tell if the story's been inactive since it was started last year, or if someone just added a page last Tuesday. Thanks. --Rawar 15:25, 27 October 2009 (PDT)

Tutorial

I have started a Tutorial. If you want to give me a couple days, I can finish most of the pages myself (except for the video embedding. I'm not even sure that's possible. I heard someone talk about it in a story though.), but there may be some topics I've overlooked. If there are, would you please add them? Would you also make sure the info I included is accurate? Lastly, I'm not really sure where the appropriate place to put it would be. Right now it's residing in the G stories section. Maybe you can find a good place for it. --Rawar 22:46, 28 October 2009 (PDT)

Reversion needed?

Looks like the main page may need to be reverted. All the PG-13 stories found their way into the Quizzes section. Looks like it's a job only a sysop can do. --Rawar 13:45, 30 October 2009 (PDT)

What do you mean?

When you posted me about me taking away catagories for my pages, I misunderstood you. Do you mean you want me to start putting them, or not deleting them? I'm not the one who's been getting rid of them. In fact, I wouldn't even know how. Please don't delete my pages.--Blablob 13:10, 13 November 2009 (PST)

what are you talking about? I never deleted it. Honostly! But, uh, yeah, I'll make sure I make catagories for my pages.--Blablob 18:14, 13 November 2009 (PST)

After a little bit of thought, I've come to a decision. I'll be leaving the website. Er..I guess a better way to put is I won't be editing anymore. I used to do it all the time, but I just find it kind of boring now. So, yeah, see ya later, I guess.--Blablob 16:15, 14 November 2009 (PST)

Blablob is BACK, baby!

Hello, I'm back. Yes, after a while of thought and whatnot, I decided I'd give this place a second go. Now, my other stories--13 years, Icarly, and a few others--it's all behind me. I'm going to start focusing more on PG 13 stories rather than mature stories, and I'll probably work on 1 story, and make it really good, rather than making a bunch of stories. It won't be anything like 13 years: a long story with long chapters with barely any choices to make; I'm coming back for a fresh start. So, I hope you are glad to have me back, and I promise to take consideration into my mistakes in the past.--Blablob 13:28, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry About The Grammar

Last night I was pretty tired when I was typing all of that storyline. I ended up kind of ignoring all my mistakes... Thanks for the future reminder though. --Orpheus 21:27, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

A story

I know its not you genre of writing... But I found a story in the pit of abandoned stories that had nothing in it so i decided to take hold of it.. I was wondering if maybe you could help me out with it considering I know how great you are with your stories. Write now I only have about ten or so pages on it but I want it to be restored and out of the grave yard so I was wondering if you could help me with 5,000 B.C. [1]

Guess I should report this to you

So while reading Warhammer: Sartosa, City of Pirates about a week ago I reached the page knock at the door which had an odd code.

http:// editthis.info/choose_your_own_adventure/Password_here

Supposedly a browser was to appear in which you could enter the password but obviously it’s not working. I briefly read the Wikipedia help articles but found no helpful information on how to fix it. So I used categories to cheat and get to the next page. I would have told you earlier but for some reason I did not.

So I’m wondering if this is some sort of bug that happened when the database was transferred and if it can be fixed. If not I can just start a new page at the page were you get the password and copy the entire story into a new story arc identical to the normal one except that you know the password.

Also, happy New Year and merry Christmas in arrears. (If you’re into that sort of thing).

Hey Platypus!! :D

This is what you wrote (I'll put in bold the things I wrote): Please follow the style of the story you are working on I don't get it, do you mean by this that I have to continue writing pages for Burning Leaves or does it mean that I have to write in third person in every page where I write? (which is the style I normally use) . The pages in University Daze do not start with dashes What are dashes? (I searched in my dictionary and it described the word as lines but I don't think it means that) . And again, include the category on every page you write. I would do that if I knew how to but I don't (*sigh* I still have a lot to learn about CYOA). Btw what to you mean with again? You never told me to before.

-pandafoxygirl- 17 January 2010 at 8:34 am (European time) Um excuse me but i didnt post it, I think so how would you even know it's incomplete and I'm new to the whole choose adventure thing so please at first their all going to be choppy but you dont have to threaten to delete it how would you like it if I threatened to delete something of yours? --Caterius 00:22, 19 January 2010 (UTC) Um okay could you please help me out on my story then please and thankyou.--Caterius 14:33, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Oh, now I get it (I think), thanks. It's just that I'm actually Dutch, I'm pretty good at English but I still have to learn a lot.

Oh sorry then, I didn't think of it that way.

Okay then, from now on I'll also add categories to the page.

Thanks for helping me out ^_^;

The Battle for the Earth

Hi Platypus! I was hoping you could move "The Battle for the Earth" from the Pit back into the active list. I've started working on this, cleaning it up and running some interesting story lines through it. I'd like to be open for others to add to. Thanks! -Robin
