You realize that there are several things in Annabelle's story that don't add up. Why would she be so hostile to Holly and refuse to believe her? And if Joe was up and out of bed, he must have been faking his injury. And most damning of all, if Joe was faking it, then Annabelle must be in on it too, since she was the only one checking up on him.

Knowing that Annabelle could kill Holly at any moment, you can't take any chances. You fire, shooting Annabelle in the head. Holly stands up in relief as Annabelle's corpse slumps down.

"Thank you, Marina." Holly gives you a hug. "You saved my life."

"Well, you saved mine first."

Holly brushes a strand of your brunette hair out of your face affectionately, then turns to look at Annabelle's body, shaking her head. "I still can't believe it. We've known her for so long...How could she and Joe try to betray us like that?"

"Catastrophes have a tendency to bring out the best and worst in people," you say. "In her case, it was obviously the latter."

Holly squeezes your hand, then looks down at her basket. "Even after all this, we still have dinner to take care of. Oh, and someone should let Jack know what happened right away."
