Other issues some might take offense to are slavery, racism, sexism, and the fact that the protagonist is 16. Life 2,000 years ago had slaves, racism, sexism, and women got married younger, the only thing missing is magic. If you want to pretend that these things didn't happen then this isn't the story for you.
The Setting

The Immortal Elves kingdoms ruled over most of the continents until an unnatural tectonic shift slammed all the continents together. When this happened the lesser races used the chaos to overthrew the Elves. Only one Elven Kingdom survived by lifting its lands into the air, and little is know about them other than they are extremely Xenophobic. The surviving Elves were enslaved and seemed to devolve by losing their immortality.
While the lesser races all overthrew the Elves, Humans were the winners. Humans kingdoms replaced the Elven ones, and continued the wars for land the Elves had thousands of years before. Over time the three biggest kingdoms united and created the Cadeyrian Dominion. This empire, like the Elves before, subsisted off slavery and grew wealthy and powerful.
Two hundred years ago a massive slave rebellion broke out in the Cadeyrian Dominion. These slaves made themselves into an army and went East through the barbarian infested mountainous terrain. These slaves then formed a government, the Brotherhood. Little is know about the Brotherhood in the Cadeyrian Dominion other than what they hear from traders, that they are communal and are extremely authoritarian.
Magic is distrusted universally in all human kingdoms. While it is necessary for war, Humans keep magic users isolated from the general population for everyone protection. Only being allowed outside the tower when they are deemed to be subservient to the specific kingdom they are in. Barbarian tribes also tend to force their witches and shamans into being subservient in fear of their power.
Tarna is an exception when it comes to how Kingdoms deals with magic. Tarna has a culture of magical tolerance and magic users from around the world go there to learn. Tarna says that they are the only Kingdom to never be conquered and that is because they have the greatest spell casters in the world.
The last people of note are the barbarians. They live in the mountains of the mega volcano at the center of all the smashed together continents. There is no one tribe, but a multitude of tribes ranging from Orcs, Minotaurs to big burly humans. These tribes are constantly at war, and raid just about everyone, including themselves. Tarna is the exception and that is because they hired the southern tribes as mercenaries to bolster its defense from outsiders.
