Attempt to open one of the crates

You walk over to one of the crates, and grab onto what appears to be a loose board. You give it a good tug, and it wrenches free with a loud BANG!
Unfortunately for you, that attracts the attention of the men in the room above, and they come running. You can hear their footsteps on the floor above, then you see the first one's shoes on the ladder.
You've got a split second before they spot you. What do you do?
