You dart around the girl and after the man, not wanting him to get away for almost killing that girl. Just as he reaches platform C, he suddenly freezes mid-stride and you are able to quickly close the distance between the two of you and grab his shirt.

He doesn't react. You pull on it, and he refuses to budge. You take a moment to look around you and find that everyone in the vicinity seems to have frozen, it is though time itself has suddenly stopped.

"I'm sorry, I wish I could have allowed you to stop that man but you've run out of time," a voice says from behind you. You recognize it as the same voice you heard when you signed that contract an hour ago.

You turn around and find yourself staring at some sort of spirit. It consists of a hooded white cloak with a featureless, black porcelain mask where the face should be. It has no form or body, and in the white voids of the mask's eyes you can sense a powerful malevolence and deep hatred... for you.

"What's going on?" you ask, confused.

"You saved that girl's life, and thus granted me the strength I needed to break free of the mask my twisted, corrupt self had seald me in. The same side of me with whom you struck a deal with one hour ago. I have frozen the world around us so that I may speak to you, and present you with a choice in return for fulfilling your side of the contract."

"If I made the deal with the other you... why are you the one fulfilling the contract? Shouldn't I have just been brought back to life?" you question the spirit, again.

"As we are two sides to the same being... any contract that my other half enters into also applies to me even if I was not the one around at the time. As for your second question... I simply do not wish to force upon you that which you do not truly want. I offer you the choice. You you wish me to restore you to life as the contract initially stated, or would you prefer I allow you to pass on to the afterlife that my other half denied you?"

You consider your options. Although the man you were chasing may end up getting away, the choice of entering the afterlife and seeing what it has to offer is an interesting one. You have a tough decision to make.

The End: You have saved a life, and a spirit, though the one responsible may get away. You must now choose between living again, or finally moving on... but that is another story entirely.
