You rush out the door and after the monster! In a moment you're upon it, and you begin speaking a few quick words--but it's too fast for you, and you stop mid-spell to shout at it, "Come back! Come back here, I'll kill you!" The thing turns a tendriled eye toward you, and as it does so part of its bublous hulking body slams into a massive tree with a satisfying squish and crunching sound. The create winces in pain and closes its eyes, and just at that moment you strike. A wispy fire extends from your fingers, searing the tentacle that had grabbed your friend, which falls writhing to the grass! The creature lets out a gurgly, high-pitched wail, and then another of its tentacles moves at you from your right. You try to dodge, but it's too fast and knocks you off your feet, and you bump your head.

But Nate would be ashamed if you were to stay down. This is no time to show weakness, and you jump back up, while the thing desperately tries to get away, nursing its twice-injured body while making sad sounds like "mmmmph, oooommphph . . ." But this time it's moving much slower, and you have more time to prepare you magic wonders. You recite a spell far more flamboyant than the last, "Dakis nouon, venereab teuo!" A fierce cold wind starts blowing into your face, and green leaves begin tearing off nearby trees. "Gein vor jau, kiebo mindray! Golootuo!" Then, from the heavens a brilliant flash of light falls onto the creature, piercing it asunder in a terrific blast. After smoke and flame clears away and bits of rubbery flesh have been sent out all around, you venture up to the thing. Amazingly it is still alive, though you doubt it will ever move again.

"You killed my friend! Why would you do that? You deserve to die here, without a burial!" Transparent whitish goo oozes out of the creature's deep wounds, and you're about to walk away when it moves one of its tentacles in belabored little jerks. You see its aim: a large branch that came down from a tree in the wind. Even now at the last it is preparing to kill you as well. But it's too late for it, and one more quick spell and that last tentacle is made unusable as well. The thing lets a sound very much like crying, and you eye it menacingly. Then you turn around to walk away again. At one point you think you hear it make a sound like "Draden"--but then the creature is silent. You return to your home to collect your thoughts.
