"I'll go with the enema, I guess." Sarah said looking away.
"Good choice. I'm going to go get the supplies for the enema and then I'll be right back. Don't run away on me." Dr. Lenir said. After he left the room, Sarah sat and thought about what he said. Had someone run out on him before? Why would they run away? Maybe they were embarrassed about their treatment. Before she had more time to think about it, a knock came from the door and there Dr. Lenir was with the supplies.
"You know for a GI clinic, it's hard to find enema supplies. In the end, I did find them but jeez." Sarah couldn't help but laugh at how frazzled he looked. His hair looked like he ran his hands through it a bunch and his tie was crooked. "This is why we have nurses look for things, us doctors have no idea where things are." He said shaking his head.
He started setting up everything on the table. Sarah felt overwhelmed by all the tube looking things she was on the table. "Alright, we can get started now. Before we get started though, do you have any questions on all of this?" Sarah thought for a second and couldn't think of any questions.
"I just feel a little overwhelmed with all of this." Sarah said quietly.
"That's perfectly understandable. If you have any question at anytime just ask me. I'll be right here. You're my last patient of the day so I won't have to run anywhere." Dr. Lenir said leaning back in his chair for a minute before sitting back up and opening the packages. Once all the packages were open, he lubed up whatever needed lube and filled up the bag with the solution.
"What's in that solution?" Sarah asked curious as to what the mystery liquid was.
"This solution is a mixture of laxatives and saline. It will soften anything up and let it pass easier." He said while double checking everything. "Now I'll put this in the same way I put my finger in. Breathe in, count to 3 and breathe out, okay?" Sarah nodded her head in confirmation. "Alright, then breathe in." Sarah followed the steps and felt him push the tube in. She winced when she felt the tube scrape against the inside of her rectum. "I'm sorry, did that hurt?"
"No it doesn't hurt. It just got really uncomfortable." He nodded his head seemingly satisfied by her answer.
"I won't push the fluids until you get more comfortable." After a few minutes, she was finally more comfortable with the tube that was inside of her.
"I think I'm ready." she whispered.
"Alright. I'm going to start off slowly so that you can adjust to how the fluids feel." He slowly moved the slider that was preventing the fluid for escaping in Sarah. Sarah gasped when she felt the fluid flow into her. "That's all I'm going to do for now. If you think you can handle more, just let me know."
Sarah started to feel really uncomfortable and needed some support but thought it would be weird to ask her doctor to hold her hand for this.
