“Do you mean it?” Velma asks sulkily, her shoulders shuddering.

“Of course,” you say. “I think having a Great Dane is really cool. How can you keep it? I didn’t know they would allow dogs that big.”

“Oh, well, he’s not mine,” she blushes. “He’s my boyfriend’s. He lives off campus, you see. I visit him on weekends.”

You nod and notice the books clutched in her hands are Advanced Physics and Calculus. School doesn’t start until tomorrow.
