I pull suddenly to the right, and Gold crashes into the gym wall. I swing my bat at his neck and get a satisfying crack. Pulling back for a good swing, I manage to knock out the Gold zombie's brains in only a few swings.
Meanwhile, only John Marin is left standing, and Eli and Lucas attack him, cracking his head open from alternate swings downwards, like they're hammering in a railroad spike. At that moment, the door to the outside gives a creak and pops open, sending Nathan and Zoe who were pushing on it sprawling out onto the pavement. I dash outside, raising my hand to shield my eyes from the sun.
The parking lot is deserted, and as Eli and Jon hoist Jimmy down the steps the door closes and the nine of us are left standing there, alone except for a few ragged looking cars.
