In these stories, stone and bone are the tools of choice, with maybe copper depending on its prominence. Iron and bronze working haven’t been invented and agriculture and herding are not very developed. Money is not even a concept, trade of goods is the primary system of value, and most civilization is in its infancy, if it exist at all. Man’s knowledge of the world is based on oral tradition and believe in gods and spirits is commonplace. Lives are short, as humans still live in fear of disease, famine, the weather, and wild animals.
It also means the world is also vastly different culturally, with much more of an emphasis on survival than most modern religions. With maybe a few select farming communities (depending on the specifics), most societies are hunter-gatherers, foraging for plants and hunting animals for food. As such, their is little need for specialization of jobs and large scale conflicts don’t normally happen. As a result, as well as the lack of permanent construction, the land is relatively untouched by Man’s hands and is ancient in all aspects.
This is an untouched world where survival is the game, and the world is your primitive playground. So what are you thinking?
