An hour later and you're sitting in a room at the police station. Across the table is a long grey man in a long grey suit. He looks older than he should, like the life was sucked out of him overnight. His name - or so he tells you - is Davies. He's an inspector. He stares with distaste at your license.
'Private dick, huh?' he says.
'Like it says,' you reply. He closes it and tosses it back to you. 'Mind telling me what you were doing down Westchester road this afternoon?'
'I was following the stiff,' you say. 'Only he wasn't a stiff at the time. He went in through the door and then someone started shooting. I went to investigate and got used for baseball practice for my efforts.'
"Then what happened?" A voice boomed from the back of the room.
