You don't have time to chat, you'll have to explain yourself to Alexis later.
You quickly crawl out of Alexis' car and rush across the street to the vehicle the drunk driver is in. As you do, Alexis walks over and picks up the little girl.
"Shh... Shh... It'll be okay," you hear her say as she tries to calm the little girl down.
You rip open the door to the drunk's car and lean in to undo his seatbelt. The force of the impact seems to have jammed the buckle and no matter how many times or how hard you press the button it just refuses to spit out the seatbelt. You tug and pull on it as the flames spread. You can feel the heat on your legs growing in intensity with each passing second as the flames near.
You pause for a moment to take a deep breath and summon all your strength. You take a firm grip on the seatbelt and yank with all of your might.
Tearing it completely out of the buckle and freeing the driver. You can feel the flames flickering next to your legs and causing minor burns as you drag the driver from the vehicle.
You drag him down the driveway, then the sidewalk, to put some distance between you and the flaming vehicle. You stretch up and look over to Alexis so that you may explain your actions only to find that she appears to be frozen mid-stride toward you.
It's an odd sight, and as you glance around you spot odd things all around you: the flames under the car have stopped spreading and no longer even move, a bird just across the street from you is frozen mid-flight and hovers in the air without flapping its' wings, and the water let out by a sprinkler on a nearby lawn is seemingly frozen in mid-air and refuses to come down.
Time itself seems to have stopped all around you.
"You have saved two, arguably three lives today and done something wonderful," a voice says from the direction of the road.
You turn in its' direction and find yourself staring at some sort of spirit. It is a white hooded cloak wearing a featureless, black porcelain mask where the face should be. It has no body or form and in the white voids of its' eyes you can sense a malevolent force and deep hatred... for you.
"What do you mean?" you ask the spirit, recognizing its' voice as the one you heard an hour ago when you signed that contract.
"You gave me the strength I needed to break free of the mask that my twisted, corrupt self had sealed me in. In fact, you have given me so much strength that it will be longer than ever before it can free itself again and attempt to steal the souls of the dead," the spirit responds as it floats toward you.
"I see. What happens now?" you ask, wondering about your contract.
"Now you have a decision to make. Although it was my other half that started the contract, as we are still the same being, I am bound by it to fulfill my end of the bargain and provide you with something."
"Something?" you question, remembering it specifically said you'd be brought back to life.
"Yes. I do not wish to force upon you something you may not want. So I offer you a choice. Would you like me to honor the original contract and restore you to life... or would you like me to simply alter the terms of the contract and allow you to pass on into the afterlife?"
You consider your choices. Although you had done all of this initially for a chance to live, perhaps there was more to be gained in the afterlife? You realize you now have a very tough decision to make.
The End: You have saved Alexis' life, as well as a drunk driver's and saved the spirit from its' imprisonment. By saving Alexis, you may have also inadvertantly saved the little girl too. Now you just need to decide if you would like to live once more or see what the afterlife has to offer you... but that is another story entirely.
