The creature laughs. "For nobody, you make quite a lot of noise. I thought you were going to bring the mountain down around us."

You laugh as well – from the shame, and from relief. "I'm lucky I'm still alive," you agree.

"I've seen luckier," the creature replies, its voice waspish and cruel.
