You decide not to take the risk and tell her that you don't really see things working out. She asks if its because she is the boss's daughter. You can't really say yes to that question, so you deny it and tell her you aren't looking for anything serious right now. She accepts your lie and hopes you can still be friends, which you actually do hope for. Things at the office are still going well and it actually isn't awkward with Carla at work. The two of you become quite good friends and you do have the twinge of regret in not dating her. Soon, she starts dating another guy named Todd, which is a classic douchebag name btw. You feel jealous but want her to be happy and if that can't be with you then might as well be someone else. Todd and Carla date for several months and things look good from the outside. You date a few different girls, but nothing gets past a few weeks.
One friday after work, someone knocks on your door. You open it and see Carla, crying on your doorstep. You invite her inside and ask what is wrong. She tells you that Todd cheated on her with your coworker Karen, that bitch. You comfort her as best you can while keeping it platonic. You tell her Todd is a douche and she deserves better. She cries in your arms and falls asleep there. The next morning she wakes up, thanks you for everything, and goes home. You don't hear from her the rest of the weekend, but you see her at work on monday. She looks much better and you ask her how she is. She tells you she went back to Todd's house to get her stuff and he apologized for everything and begged for her back. You laugh and call him a pussy. She looks at you with anger in her eyes and she says she took him back. What? You really can't believe it, but there is no mistaking what she said. You ask why and she says he felt really sorry and she felt bad. Now you don't feel bad, she is an idiot. Todd is a cheating dick and she is too stupid to see that.
You continue on with your work and move up in your career. Within two years at the company, you are a lead supervisor and making a pretty penny. You are currently with a teacher named Heather, who loves her job as much as you love yours. You don't talk to Carla much anymore but she and Todd are engaged now. They end up getting married and you get a wedding invite, but you decide not to go. A few months later, you hear a knock at the door. Carla is standing there with a bloody nose and split lip. You have one guess as to who did this. She falls into your arms and Heather runs to get some first aid supplies. She says he isn't normally like this and its never happened before, but you see the bruises on her arms and back. Once a douche, always a douche. You clean her up and let her sleep at your house. What do you do about Todd?
