“So…. We’re all alone.” you say to her after explaining what had happened.
Jane doesn’t look as distraught from the news as I had expected.
“I can’t believe we’ll never see mom or dad again… it’s just hard to imagine.” you say, knowing she will feel better if she talks about it.
“I know. It was a very high price to pay, but it was the only way.” She tells you.
You nod in agreement before realizing what she just said made no sense.
“What do you mean?”
“Mom and dad would have killed me, or at least locked me up if they had known my little secret. Plus, I couldn’t be certain how you would respond to it either.” She tells you, although you have no idea what she is talking about.
“I still don’t understand.”
“Now it’s just you and me all alone on a distant planet; a new Adam and Eve more or less.”
“There is just one problem with that analogy. Adam and Eve were supposed to build up the human population. We can’t do that because… well, we’re brother and sister.”
“You don’t have a choice though, because it’s either me or no one. You see, that’s the beauty of this plan.”
“Plan… you mean you sabotaged the other sleeping chambers? You killed all those people?”
“Don’t overreact! I didn’t kill them; I just made sure they would age naturally and die of old age. Anyway, even if you’re mad at me you’ll have to forgive me sooner or later, since I am your new wife.”
“You’re not my wife, you’re my sister!” you yell at Jane angrily.
“Alright, calm down! I guess you are a little old fashioned so maybe wife is a big first step. We’ll start with girlfriend, okay?”
