You pull the crucifix out of your pocket and thrust it in Walfried's face. He howls, covers his face, and stumbles back. You keep it pointed at him as you fumble with the door. When he's stumbled several feet back, he takes his arm down. "Ah! I see ve are playing hard to get today." He smirks at you. "I velcome ze challenge. Your friend Michael, he vas easy."
"You had better not let your guard down Melissa." He throws back his head and laughs. The peals of laughter get fainter as the vampire dissolves into mist, then seeps into the walls.
Almost a full minute after he's gone, you move again. I didn't know they could do that! you think. Who knows what else vampires are capable of. You slip the crucifix over your neck. Michael's almost certainly dead. You need to get out of here before you succumb to the same fate!
You hurry down the hall and speed down the stairway. You race past the records room and face the foyer. What you see here makes your heart sink. A huge pile of debris has been moved against the door. There will be no exiting that way.
Several doors lead off the foyer. One of them might have an exit. The high windows are also large enough for a person to scramble through, if you can get to them.
