Carefully, step by step, you make your way towards him. You are on tip-toe, too, testing each board before you put your weight on it. Once, you could feel the floor groaning beneath you. Quickly, you change your position.
At last, you are beside him. You reach down and take his arms.
You haul him out, and stand panting for a minute.
"Are you alright?" you breath.
"Of course I am!" Kwan answers hotly, brushing dust from his shirt.
"Come out of there!" Charmaine orders from the doorway.
"Let's go!" you tell Kwan, grasping his arm.
But he slips free and steps across to the first door. He tries the old, rusted handle. It turns easily.
Kwan pushes the door. It swings open. He gives a loud cheer. Then, he stand to attention and bows to you like a doorman. He does one of his terrible imitations, like those old men you see in the horror movies.
"Do come inside," he smirks. "This is where we keep the bodies..."
The next minute, he vanishes into the room, and there is silence.
"Kwan!" you yell. You close your eyes. Mum and Dad would kill you when they hear about this!
"Where did he go?" Charmaine yells, stepping gingerly down the corridor.
