You start climbing up the mountain of skulls. You make it to the correct level, and start going around the precarious mountain. Skulls aren't really meant for climbing, and at one particularly twisty passage, the road (if you can call it that) collapses under you. You tumble down into your deaths.

Piggy: "Hey, what if we climbed this mountain first?"

Captain: "What would that help?"

Piggy: "The mountain is much easier to go around from further up. Plus, the way to the chasm of giant skeletons is up the mountain anyways, so we might as well climb it by now."

Captain: "Fair enough."
