Gandalf fights, and the Balrog drags him into the crevasse below Moria.
Aragorn manages to get the remains of the Fellowship out of Moria, and through Lothlorien - where Galadrial aids their quests with useful gifts. In spite of this, Gandalf's fears come true - and Boromir is unable to control his desire for the Ring. He attacks Frodo, shattering the Fellowship and triggering a chain of events that leaves Aragorn with an impossible decision.
