March 5, 1770
You are on king street. There are about 20 townspeople, maybe more, in the square yelling at the soldiers. A few people have sticks, and are throwing snowballs. You can tell that they are angry. You have only just arrived, so you don’t know what happened. You ask a kid who is sitting in front of a store watching the crowd if he knows what happened. He says, “That soldier in front of the customs house hit Edward with the butt of his musket for no good reason.” You ask him, “Why would the soldier hit a random apprentice?” The boy says, “I think Edward was insulting the officer.” You respond, “Then there was a reason?” The boy says, “Are you a tory, because a simple insult doesn’t give someone the right to almost kill a kid."
