"Quick! Hit him! Over the head!" you shout while trying to keep the man from getting the gun.
The girl hestiates, making you think you're on your own for a moment but she overcomes her fear and gets up from behind the desk. She hurries around to the front of it, winds up, and nails the man in the back of the head with the broomstick.
He's momentarily stunned, and you use this to knee him in the gut, knocking the wind out of him.
"Again!" you shout, and she follows up with a second strike. This time the hit makes his grip on the weapon loosen and you tear it from his hands. You bring up your foot and kick him hard in the gut sending him stumbling back. The girl strike him for a third time, this time hard enough that the broomstick breaks over his head, and he drops to his knees before falling flat on the floor on his face.
He isn't dead, but he is unconscious.
The girl seems apalled by what she just did and throws the broken broomstick down, backing away from the body. You can faintly hear the sound of a police siren, a little late but at least they're coming.
"Oh my god... I just... I just killed... "
"No, it's okay. He is just unconscious," you tell her, and she looks quite relieved despite what the man has done.
"Are you alright?" you ask, and she nods.
"I think so... Thank you... thank you so mu-" she begins, stopping mid-sentence and freezing up for no apparent reason. The sounds of the incoming sirens also cease.
"Are you okay?" you ask again, waving your hand in front of her face.
"She'll be fine," you hear a voice say from just outside the room. You recognize the voice as the one you heard earlier when you signed that contract. You walk over the unconscious man, past the girl, and into the hall to locate the source of the voice.
You find the source standing on the stairwell. It appears to be some kind of spirit consisting of a hooded white cloak and featureless, black porcelain mask where the face should be. In the eyes of the mask, which are just white voids, you can sense a powerful malevolence and deep hatred for you.
"That girl is not the only one who you saved today and I thank you for saving them, as well as me. My twisted half had trapped me within a mask but your selfless act gave me the strength I needed to free myself and seal that corrupt part of me away instead."
You glance back toward the room, and the frozen girl: "So what happens now?"
"Now you have a choice to make. I can restore you to life and what happens here can play out how it should,"
"Or?" you ask.
"I can allow you to pass into the afterlife, something my other half denied you so it could offer you that contract. If you wish you may spend the rest of your remaining time here before you go... but not a second more, I'm sorry."
You consider your options. You aren't sure what the best choice to make is yet, you'd have to think long and hard on this tough decision.
The End: You have saved the life of the girl, an unknown other, and the spirit. Now you must choose whether you wish to continue living or pass into the afterlife and see what it has to offer... but that is another story entirely.
