What kind of friend would you be if you didn't look for look for Michael first? Besides, he owes you coffee.
The inn itself seems a good place to start your search. You walk up to the front desk. "Excuse me, a co-worker of mine, from the Lager and Hays firm was staying here... Michael is his name. Is he still checked in, and when did you last see him?"
The innkeeper strokes his beard. "Michael? Room 103. He never checked out, but I haven't seen him since the night before last." He glances furtively about. "I heard him say something about going up to the castle." His face clouds "Don't go there, Miss! If he's gone there and isn't back by now, he won't be back at all. It's a bad place. You might try asking about him at the tavern, though. It's one of the only restaurants in town, so he's probably gone there once or twice."
As you reflect on that statement, another idea occurs to you. "Can you let me into his room then? No one at the firm has heard from him in a while, and I want to know if I can find any clues there"
"Absolutely not. We can't let you into another customer's room under any circumstances."
