You slowly return to consciousness. You drift in a pleasant fog, devoid of interest in your surroundings or your predicament. They told you it would be like this . . . told you it was your duty. You realize with a mildly amused start that you see nothing, feel nothing, hear nothing. This goes on for a long time - so long that you begin to forget what else they told you. It was something important . . . or was it? You begin to feel something new, but can't recall how to label the feeling. After many long (how do you measure time without a heartbeat? without the sky?) moments, you recall - the feeling is called fear.
