It is past midnight when you enter the hotel. Kirsten sent Julianne a text explaining that she and Will went to bed. They left the key to your room at the counter. Julianne collects the key and inquires the availability of room service. According to the concierge, the kitchen serves round the clock. Julianne orders tea to be delivered to your room.
Your room is on the top floor, at the end of the hallway. Kirsten's and Will's room is opposite to yours. Julianne unlocks the door and switches the lights on. There is a double bed, centered at the east wall, with nightstands on each side. There are windows to the north and west. The roof terrace to the west is accessible via glass sliding doors. Next to the entrance door stands a large wardrobe (useless for now) and a dresser with a large mirror.
A knock on the door - the tea you Julianne ordered. While Julianne takes care of the room service, you open the terrace doors. Besides an ensemble of a table and four chairs, two sunbeds and a beach umbrella are situated on the open space. A privacy shield divides the terrace from the opposite side that belongs to Kirsten's room. The air is balmy, the sky is clear, the stars are twinkling in the night sky. Julianne comes out; she puts the tray with the tea and some biscuits on the table. You sit down. Julianne pours you tea and takes a cookie.
"The view is breathtaking," she says. You agree. You overlook the town, the streets are bustling with activity, even at this hour. Over the street noise, you can hear the waves breaking on the shore.
You enjoy your tea in silence. Then, Julianne says: "About what happened in the cab..."
Well, the moment had to come. "I'm sorry, mum!" you blurt out. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. Don't be mad at me."
"You shouldn't have done this," Julianne says. "You were in public and in danger of detection, you know? The point is - don't do things like this when other people might catch you. If Kirsten or Will would have turned their heads, what would you have done then, Sweetie? You must think of the consequences, even if you are overcome with certain urges."
Huh? Julianne laughs at the confused look on your face. "Don't look like that. I was once myself young and full of - shall we call it spirit? I'm not mad. All I am telling you is: be careful. And now enough with that. We need to get up early."
Phew. You thought you'd get scolded for what you did, you never expected your mum to be so cool about it. Time to take the shower and go to bed. Who goes first - you or your mum?
