You tell the interviewer your story of quitting your office job, your tireless work to learn the craft, and how it all started with your old Gameboy. He enjoys the story and admires your determination. He sees how much this means and knows that you will work harder than someone who has the degree because you have more to prove. You agree completely and promise you will work harder and continue to learn. He gives you the job and you start next week. You leave the room with a smile wider than a crescent moon. You go home and quit your bartender job. You go into your first day of work and see there are no cubicles. It is all open concept and you are surrounded by other coworkers that you meet and instantly like except Karen, no one likes her. The first week goes better than you could have dreamed. You are working on the cutting edge of gaming and learning new things every second. Your skills have increased ten fold and knowledge is just pouring into your mind.

You meet Carla, who sits two desks away from you. You ask her out and she accepts. You go out for drinks and she has a great personality that complements yours. You also learn she is the boss's daughter. Oh no, that definitely complicates things a bit. You don't want it to seem like you are trying to sleep your way to the top, but Carla is such a catch and you don't want to give up that easily.

You don't have the money to head back to school, so you decide to put yourself out there and try to get hired. You send your resume to several gaming companies and start building your skills at home. You practice programming and designing on your old computer while you wait to hear back. After two weeks you haven't heard any responses yet. You have a fair amount in your savings, but if you don't get a job soon things might get tough. You wait another week and call up the companies. They all tell you the same thing. You lack a degree and experience. You feel disheartened but there is no way you can go back to the office. You cannot live like that for the rest of your life and you don't plan to. You take a part time job as a bartender to pay the bills and keep your savings in the bank. You only work nights, so you spend the days learning everything there is to know about game design and concepts. You start creating flash games and coming up with ideas for bigger games. After five months of this, you contact the companies and tell them of your progress. Three of the four just laugh off and tell you the same as before, but one takes you seriously. You get an interview for the next day.
