"Yeah, sorry if the room is sort of...small and dark. I had asked about having meetings outside- there's this little hill past the trees in back of the school, and it's basically this big patch of grass, completely surrounded by flowers. It's beautiful. I thought it'd be good inspiration for videos, but the idea was shot down because we can't set the projector up out there. If you want, maybe you and I could go up there sometime together, even just to sit around when it's sunny out..." He pauses suddenly, as if realizing he has said something wrong. "I don't mean, together, um, alone- I don't mean...just if you wanted to check it out as a film spot or something." He is avoiding eye contact.

The following day after school, you attend the first meeting of film club. Your eyes light up as you enter the room- film equipment is set up in each corner of the room, props from the drama department are scattered across desks, and the large projector at the front of the room is displaying looped footage of a silent carnival, the colors fading in and out and giving the activity of the carnival a serene quality.

"Hey, Alice! You're new to this, right?" Blaine McCoy is on your right, smiling with a mouth full of braces. Blaine was a nice kid, if a little bit awkward, and very involved in the arts. He was also a snappy dresser, which did little to make up for the braces, 70s glasses and bad haircut.

"Sort of. I've worked on filming and video editing before, but this is my first time in the club," you reply.
