Situation
Smethcote sits in rolling hills, facing south across a stream and a valley to Woolstaston, 1km away.
History
Church
A small church, with neither tower nor spire.
Castle
A motte and bailey castle, immediately west of the church. A circular motte 28m diameter at the base, and 9m at the summit, stands north of the kidney shaped bailey 50 x 37m. It was surrounded by a V-shaped cut ditch. It was abandoned about 1272, when the manor passed to Acton Burnell
