Newport City was incorporated in 1756 and it became the seat of government in 1778. It has been the capital of Newport since 1665 when it was called Otoño. When the Republic of Newport was founded, the leader changed the name to Ciudad ng Newport, or the City of Newport.

History

The history of the city of Newport can be traced back as far as 1536, when it was established as a trading port under the name Puerto de Oro. It has thereafter been the capital of various provinces of Western Jintu Empires throught the Warring Period of the 1600s. In the Coronan Empire Era, it was called Otoño, which means Autumn, because of its orange and red landscapes during the fall seasons.

Sutherwish Occupation

In 1734, the Sutherwish Navy, under the command of Admiral Pierce II, invaded the Coronan Empire. Due to the surprise attack, Coronans were forced to flee back to the mountains and abandon most of the cities along the coastal plains. On November 17, 1735, the Sutherwish troops defeated the remaining Coronan forces in Otoño and captured the city. On November 19, 1735, Admiral Pierce renamed the city to Newport and established it as the colonial capital.

During the colonialization, the Coronans tried to attack the Sutherwish forts set up along the coast several times. In 1833, the Sutherwish declared war on the Coronan people as it saw their army as an increasing threat. On December 22, 1833, the first battle of the First Newport War was fought at the city of Stranbourg. The war lasted until January 8, 1835, when the Coronans were defeated at the battle of Portsmouth and surrendered. The war officially ended on January 10, 1835 during the signing of the Treaty of Kirkaldy, with the Coronans agreeing to become a Sutherwish colony under the name Newport under the circumstance that Sutherway will grant Newport's independence on February 1, 1908.

Early 20th Century

From a small trading port, the city began to show industrialization during the early 1900s. Factories started sprouting around the city as the continuous constrution of ports began around the coasts making Newport City one of the largest ports at the turn of the century. In 1906, Newport City was named "Adrijin's fastest growing metropolis", and by 1907, the city's metro hit the population mark of 2,000,000 making it one of the largest cities in Adrijin.

On Febuary 1, 1908, the handover ceremony of Newport officially marked the transfer of Newport from the United Kingdom of Sutherway and Dahla to the Republic of Newport. It took place at the newly built Newport Pearl Building in the City Centre.

Newport Civil War

Growing riots and protests led by former general Miguel Solario Gonzalez on May 28, 1917, caused the governor of the Newport Metropolitan City to declare martial law. Still unable to stop the revolution, the governor ordered soldiers to fire at the armed demonstrators at 11:15AM causing massive violence to break out in the city. Many people fleed as city became a battlefield between the Communist Party of Newport and the Republic Army. On May 29, the next day, the rebels defeated the army and raided the Governor's House and hung the governor at the front of the building as a sign of victory. On the same day, the city of Newport was captured by the communists and became their capital.

The Great War

The City of Newport served as the national capital of the Communist Republic of Newport and the center of all propaganda during the Great War. It was destroyed by a Treiuptian missile right after the government declared war on Treiupty. The Treiuptian hydrogen bomb killed 120,000 people, the largest death toll of the whole war, and leveled the city to the ground. Newport City became the most devastated city caused by a war in history, breaking the record of the city of Chatanou, destroyed in the Newport Civil War, which is now the 2nd most devastated city in history. Newport City's destruction caused the massive reconstruction of the city, which is still undergoing.

Transportation

Air

The Newport International Airport serves Newport City and the metropolitan area. Over 20 airlines provide daily service to over 30 cities and 21 countries worldwide. Approximately 25 million travellers use the airport each year, straining what was originally a domestic airport built in the 1960s. A second terminal, Terminal 2 opened in July 2003. All airlines, exept the international flag-carrier Air Newport now use this terminal. Air Newport uses Terminal 1 exclusively for both its domestic and international service.

The main carrier serving Newport Int'l Airport is Air Newport. It has the most extensive network in Newport and also positions itself as the first true discount airline in the country.

Roads

The newly reconstructed Northern Newport Expressway (NNE) is the only fast lane highway that snakes through Newport City and the metro area. The NNE connects to the Southern Newport Expressway (SNE) through the Peace Bridge.

Elevated Rail and Subway

Newport City currently has five rail lines that interlink most districts of the city with one another and with the surrounding area. The majority of the population now uses the public transportation system due to its convenience and low cost. With more than 2 million passengers a day Newport City has one of the busiest subway systems in the SimWorld. In addition, in order to cope with all of these transportation modes, Newport City's metropolitan government employs several mathematicians to coordinate the subway, bus, and traffic schedules into one timetable.
