Background
A young man showing subtle tenacity and infinite vigor for his community.
WINBACK, the self-proclaimed "main character," is a vivid addition to the Action Discussion board. Upon first arriving at AD, he quickly established his witty and justified cynicism several times among his fellow users, never showing bias nor conformism. However, this unique attitude causes others to get the impression that he is rude or not an "anime fan," and is often mistaken to be trolling, when he is simply attempting to be less-scripted than others by always speaking his mind. It is this sense of xenophobia in AD that has motivated him to further expand his beliefs that one should be able to speak their mind freely without having to feel auotmated by having their opinions approved by or similar to others, and to never regret doing so.
Little is known about his identity, his life outside the AD board, or why he decided to join in the first place. Nevertheless, he is quickly gaining notice with his exclusive demeanor, critique, sarcasm, and superb (yet lightly altered) spelling and grammar. These attributes cause him to constantly shine out from the crowds of meaningless "LOL QFT SHEXY RUKIA" posts that congest the board.

Spelling & Grammar
"People don't seem to get this joke, but I can see why, since they don't think much about it. Spelling properly and having good grammar is not something that gets you respected or praised. That's Internet 101, a class I should be teaching. I’m not even really that great a speller compared to some people. So then why did I feel it was worth mentioning? Because it's funny that 70 percent of the people we talk to on the internet can't do it.
Let's be real here. People who skip letters, don’t use Spell Check, don't use the Shift key, don't use periods to finish sentences, don't use the ENTER key (wall-of-text), and say things to you such as 'your a idiot' or 'your retarted' are just worthless. You look down on them, and usually leave it to the other peers to realize that he or she is not worth responding to. These people won't even take the time to master writing (or in this case, typing) the language they've been raised to speak since the day they were born. It's ridiculous when you think about it, especially when they justify it with 'I don't care'. You think he or she will still care when it takes them an hour and a half to fill out an intelligently composed job application?
I know 70 percent can seem a bit absurd, but I’m sticking to it. So when you get some fairly intelligent person on the internet who can type up a storm with minor errors at worst, it's like a friggin' miracle, and that is the joke. I'm a friggin' miracle; an English oasis on the dumb-ass internet. Just for spelling properly (which isn’t even hard to begin with), I already look more intelligent than 70 percent of my e-peers. Do I expect everyone to strive to be perfect, like I do? No. I just don’t expect certain people to suck at it as bad as they seem to. Some are okay, and some are just killing the language.”
Dialect
"Above, I mentioned 'superb, yet lightly altered, grammar'. Besides it being another part of the e-joke, what the 'lightly altered' part meant exactly, is although I have decent grammar, my words are modified to match my personal dialect, so that my statements appear more organic to readers.
What I'm basically saying is: I type how I talk, even if it makes me look like I made a grammatical mistake. I've done this typing crap long enough to pinpoint my real-life vocal cords and then put them onto a screen, so that some person on the internet can get a better feeling of what I'm saying and how I’m saying it. It makes the speaker, myself, seem more organic, even though I'm just communicating through a lame-ass keyboard.
An example: Instead of 'Hey, what the hell are you doing?', I personally use 'Ey'...the hell're you doin'?'. Again, the purpose is not to be 100 percent correct in grammar, but to make my statement seem more organic. It's me talking. I was born and raised in New York, Manhattan. With sentences like that one, I talk fast, just like I walk fast.
Why do I even care to do this? Well, even though it's second-nature for me now, it's more of a personal thing. I friggin' hate people who sound like robots. You know, people who seem automated, or on cruise-control, like "BAK WB TY NP". It's not fun or enjoyable to me. I like it when people add a bit of effort in their work, as well as some personal substance. The purpose is to communicate, right? Well this helps us display our personalities more clearly through the only form we can communicate at the moment (the computer). The people who can do that are like communicative artists, and they're the ones making things more fun for everybody to read, and that's why I do it. I don't dislike every person who doesn't follow my personal 'criteria', but it certainlly tells me alot less about them.
Why should you care about this? You already do, especially if you have a sense of humor; trust me. You might even already be doing this sometimes yourself. Also, and you probably wouldn't admit this to someone personally (such as myself), if everyone typed clean-cut like I did in my example, it would come off pretty boring to you, like reading a college paper. You wouldn't laugh nearly as hard at the gluttony or frustration people try to display, among other things. Just remember that 'Wate...wut?' can appear noticeably more funnier than 'Wait, what?'."
Personal Quotes
- "Yes, I think the AD board is full of spoiled anime fans. I would know; it's the only place I post."
- "Sorry, I like anime, but I'm not in love with it like some of you are, since I'm not willing to smash objects in my house over a time edit. I'm just not hardcore enough." (in regards to the Eureka 7 incident)
- "Gekiranger! Beast...ON!" (a Super Sentai reference)
- "Wild Access!!!" (a Wild Force reference)
What He's Doing Now
Has dropped-on-request from the AD board. Current whereabouts are unknown.
Voluntary Departure
(announced his leave from the [adultswim] message board on February 10th, 1:29am EST, Sunday morning. Final rant read as follows:)
I’m done. I’ve had enough fun here, but the fun is all over. I’m willingly stepping out for the good of the community (that “good” will be explained later). But I wanted to point some things out before I do so, because there’s nothing I like better than to go out perfect, just like a hero would. Not to mention, people who say “I’m leavin 4evar, gudbye” and nothing else, are usually liars, who are just fishing for “omg dont leeve” statements, and then they come back 3 days later once their false-sense of importance is restored. People who usually leave for GOOD always have a few things to say before they take off, and that’s exactly what I’m about to post:
---There’s something going on in AD that nobody is willing to talk about, so I’ll talk about it first. I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake as I did in my last thread.
NEVER say to people, whom say that the issue you brought up is “stupid” or “who cares about it,” anything mean. They are totally justified to come into any thread that they feel like, and to call whatever they want (paraphrased) “dumb and pointless.”
Certainly never tell them that (paraphrased) they’re simply just “not smart-enough” to understand your thread, that their “thinking is automated”, and that they can “leave whenever they wish”. That is too harsh, and it will get you in serious trouble. I mean, honestly, who do you think you are to tell a person that came into YOUR thread that they don’t have to be in it if they choose not to?
There. I’m glad I pointed that out. Stuff like that isn’t tolerated here. I mean, you don’t see worse stuff going unnoticed and blatantly untouched, like censor-bypassing, direct insults, and “ban plots”, do you? Neither do I. (I laughed when PhotoPirate got caught. Only a true simp would get caught braggingly typing their "plan" out, only to have a mod catch it AND all of his alts. Too good, especially when he stopped posting out of shame)
Speaking of “flame-baiting,” that sure has gotten popular, especially in context to me. You think I wouldn’t have noticed or something. You think that I’d just go into a flame-fest the moment someone (even a complete stranger or "alt") says something controversial to me. Man. Am I just lucky? Or very careful? Hmmm.
For once, in that last thread of mine, I was very subtle in my statements (by comparison to what you've all seen me say before), because I was asked by someone to “stop” being so mean to people. So I tried to be a little easier on people, especially with the idea in the back of my head that some very agitated people were looking for any excuse to mod me. But, it still wasn’t good enough for everyone. It was just too harsh to use words like “unintelligent” and to say things like “leave if you wish.” Yeah. I really crossed the line there. I probably could've caused severe emotional damage with harsh statements like those.
Okay, by now, I think you can sense the sarcasm. The above shows that I have absolutely NO ability to get behind my statements, let alone my OWN topics, and that I have no way to let people know that they just don’t understand what’s being discussed and they should probably move on. I even thought to myself “Hey, if people really don’t like me going into OTHER threads, then that’s cool. I’ll just make my OWN threads, so that if the person doesn’t like me, they’ll see that I made the topic and will have the choice to not deal with me if they really don’t want to.” That's fair, right? Well, I started making my own topics just for that. But did that work? NO. Everyone who claims that they cannot “stand me” still come looking for me (is that hate, or is that attraction?) to play the flame-bait game, just as I would expect. But I can’t even say anything cynical (yet non-offensive) without some guy breathing down my neck. So, where’s the friggin' balance? What's with my tight leash?
I’ll put this very simply: People can cuss me out with bypassing, flame me, ban-plot on me, and smite my topics. They don’t get touched, and usually, I wouldn't care about that. But, I can’t even say “You’re not smart” without getting put on lock-down. Refer to the topics above for proof.
You thought that would slip by me or something?
---Here’s another tip: Save yourselves some trouble, and don’t ever make a thread that has a point to it, or a thread that legitimately points-out how invalid others are in regards to the subject. It will be locked for “off topic.” In fact, don’t even make your points coherent. Just say “This is how this is. I don’t have to explain why. I’ll ignore your responses. kthxbai.” If you DON’T do that, it will be locked several times quicker than most threads.
How much quicker? Well, MY thread got locked after 12 hours for being "off-topic," with the last decent post being from Jingai. 12...hours. I guess I was lucky. I mean, threads are RARELY locked for being off-topic for longer than 12 hours, right? I mean, there’s NO such thing as a thread that’s been off-topic for say...several months, right? No. No way. Oh, and fan clubs not even related to the Action Block that I didn’t even make? Those NEVER last very long, let alone 12 hours.
By now, you’re probably seeing the mental-picture I’m painting for you. It’s an intriguing picture if you think about it. So again, if you wanna make a thread with some longevity, then make sure that nobody cries in it, and make sure it doesn’t involve thinking, or the analyzing of the current shows on the Action Block. Otherwise, it will be closed for being off-topic in half a day, before anybody can come home from work and make a post pertaining to the issue. Thinking = off-topic. Don't make any open-ended statements or leave room open for discussions. Just post an opening statement, and then get a bunch of responses from people agreeing with that opening statement, and then you should be fine. Thank you.
---Now you can see what’s bothering me. “Flaming” and “Locking” is something that’s obviously debatable, not depending on what is said, but WHO is saying it. It’s pretty obvious that there are more people (other than users who don’t like me) who think I need to go. If the regular people in AD didn’t like me, I could take it. That’s actually the funniest thing in the world to me, since I made it clear (since May ‘07) that I did not join here to make friends. It’s actually convenient for me.
But, if higher “forces,” even administrative members, suddenly think that I need to go, no matter WHAT I say to people who are saying much worse, then I really have no chance. I can’t even be my usual, cynical self. And anything other than that is flat-out boring to read (for everybody) and a waste of time. I TOLD you all that I was gonna be heart-broken. Right now as people read this, they're going to be thinking "Oh, I get it: he's whining. He found signs of altered treatment, and now he wants to cry about it." Hopefully though, most of you have graduated from Middle School, and can see the difference in a "complaint" and a legitimate attempt to "call people out on their BS." And as you all know, I love calling people out on their BS. There, I hope that clears up my intentions.
Hm, but I suppose I had that bias-treatment coming. I purposely stepped on a lot of toes here (with good reasons, of course), and many have taken it very personally because I either e-offended them in front of their online buddies, or "morally offended" a TV show that they really like (you know how serious those otaku are). I mean: If I wasn't me, and I was always getting discredited by me, and always getting intellectually-outclassed by me in front of all of my little internet-friends-for-life (like what many of you have been going through), then I suppose I'd treat me much differently as well. Now that I think more about it, it's really not that surprising. Huh.
Now let's move on to some fun stuff:
---I find a certain discussion pretty ironic. I mean, really. Is there anything that compliments me more than knowing that some people (who even claim to "despise" me) have the exact same ambitions as me? But the differences are: I’ve acted upon them much sooner, much better, and much more colorful? What a huge joke. If I ever had an ego boost, then THAT topic gave it to me. It’s good to know that I’m already ahead of everyone else, and that I can do great things that others cannot. Everybody wants to be like the hero.
---You wanna see a sad, pointless direction in life? This has got everything. Lies about reality, delusions of cosplay, failure to understand the opposite sex, and worse. And sheesh, I was almost afraid people called ME boring. If this is all you guys will have to talk about after I’m gone, then I think I’m doing a terrible thing to you all.
Bonus fact: If you have a good memory, you can spot a few people that used to type perfectly normal and coherent the first day they got to AD, but the moment they made “AD friends-for-life,” they became insanely tarded. It’s a sad image when one’s unique personality is shattered into a mere shadow of it’s former self.
---Terms.
“Rogan” = this word does not mean anything insulting, at least to my knowledge (I didn't know about the Urban Dictionary entries). I just made it LOOK like it was an insult. “Rogan” (probably meant to be “Logan” as it was translated from Japan) is the name of the main character in "House of the Dead", the arcade zombie-shooter game. Thomas Rogan. But what I find interesting is that when you say “Rogan,” it sounds like some kinda bad or demeaning word. Who would’ve thought that me using it in that context would actually make others think the same? Am I an innovator, or what?
“Sekmit” = again, it’s not a bad word, I just made it look like it was. “Sekhmet” was a villain from the anime “Ronin Warriors” (or “Yoroiden Samurai Troopers”). This also sounds pretty mean, doesn’t it? If you ever hear Matt Hill (the VA for Ryo) say this guy’s name, you’ll certainly think it does.
“Krizilid” = same as above. I didn’t use this word much. Not a bad word, I just made it sound that way. “Krizalid” was the boss in "King of Fighters ’99", the SNK fighting game. Weird-looking guy.
“Godhand” = I’ve only said this once, and it was as a compliment. This means I’ve only given this compliment to one person in AD. Anyway, "God Hand" is a PS2 game made by Capcom. A very, very, manly PS2 game that is not meant for girly men with fragile hands. Simply watching the ENDING CREDITS to this game will make your eyes fall-out because your body is severely overflowing with awesome juice.
“G” = no, not as in “gangsta.” This was another complimentary word I used, but I can’t even remember when I said it. Again, I’ve only said it once. Anyway, this was Rogan’s shady partner in "House of the Dead." It doesn’t mean anything other than that.
---"Witchblade" is the worst anime in history. It was specifically created for people who didn't get enough garbage out of shows like "Tenjho Tenge," only it involves demons and Japanophilia. It's airing uncut on IFC, and it's an insult to the craft of Japanese animation. And the writing is trash. If you like this show, then you hate substance.
But hey, I'll look on the bright side. At least they got rid of "Samurai 7," (at least I think they did) which was a show that was a complete insult to Akira Kurosawa. If you like THAT show, then you hate masterpieces.
---speaking of "Tenjho Tenge," did they take it off Fuse, along with "Ergo Proxy"? I haven't seen either of them on the Dish Network guide. Well, GOOD. I TOLD you all that they were awful shows with nothing going for either of them, and you can sure-as-hell bet that nobody bought the DVDs after billions commercial advertisements for them. And you all think "advertising anime" makes a difference. *psh*
---If you can (and if it’s still playing), go see "Cloverfield." Preferably, with a bunch of friends. I almost didn't because I thought it would be dumb (and my friends talked me into it). There’s a lot of mixed talk about this. It’s actually pretty good, and it shouldn’t be compared to “Godzilla.” Just make sure you don’t have motion-sickness, and make an actual attempt to become engrossed by what is happening, and don't ask so many friggin' questions. It's not the best movie in the whole world, but it'll give you something to think about. Oh, and stay in the theatre until the credits are over.
---This is sincerely, my ONLY alt, which I just made in absence of my main. Yes, I know it’s hard to believe, but anyone with an alternate form of “WINBACK” was someone else. Get over it.
---I’ve been asked a million times. Anime that I deem “good,” as in, anime that is better than everything else that I’ve criticized since I’ve been here. You can find my response here.
There. That should cover mostly all the little stuff.
You want to know what attention really is? Well, I say it would lie somewhere around censor bypassing, alt paranoia, clones, death-threats, blatant ban-attempts, and maybe even fan-fiction about being killed. All about me, of course. I think those links I posted in the “flaming” issue clearly distinguish the truth in “Who is actually Flaming Who” on this board. Ever think about that? I’ll bet you didn’t. Well, welcome to reality, backed-up by pure fact. Who’s really the troll, now? You all think about that. You think about the hypocrisy.
But I’m e-overwhelmed. There is too much jealousy and crying from people about me, and now it’s starting to get to me. Some people are just easily offended I suppose, and have to resort to e-bawling and a childish nature in the sad hopes that I will one day be permanently banned. So, I have to be selfless, and make a decision for everyone that is at unease.
You think I’m overreacting about people whom I put at "unease?" Really??? Because I’ve been seeing some REALLY weird posts related to things that people think I’m possibly capable of. For example: That I'm capable of “hurting” (yes, HURTING, whatever that means on the internet) someone to the point where I could personally anger one of their precious e-friends (illustrated by a deleted post from a thread between forgingaheart and another user. Hopefully one of them will step-forward to humbly inform about what was actually said, since I’m respectable enough not to do so without their presence).
Wow. That’s actually pretty incredible. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the attention and my potential "influence" on others, but sheesh, I think it’s been brought a little too far.
Posting on my “main” is useless now; that’s all it really comes down to. If I have to choose between never getting to say the things I want, or to just get out, then I’d rather just get out. There’s no point in posting. I don’t even want to make an alternate name to post under. What would be the fun of that? All I would do is say the same stuff, just under a different name. It’s not like you won’t know it’s me. And I shouldn’t have to “hide” my identity in the first place. No, forget it. I’d rather ditch. I’ll tell you what though: the only thing I’ll regret is missing-out on the Code Geass premiere, only because there’s nothing I like more than being proven right once again about something I said months ago. What can I say, I'm psychic, and you'll find out for yourself after it airs for a few weeks.
But In the end, every post I made, every word I typed: I sincerely think it was worth it. If I could go back, I wouldn’t do it any differently. Because you can’t improve perfection.
I mean really, I took up a fun job that nobody else could do: constantly dealing with the EXACT same ignorance on a regular basis. How many times have you seen me repeat the exact same, legitimate, coherent statement to somebody? It wasn't because I ENJOY repeating myself, it's because I was responding to another new person who "didn't get the memo." Oh, and then there are people who I've already proven wrong, but they just pretend like they never saw me totally debunk their original statement, and they continue going around the board spreading misinformation with their own little mind-set. Kinda like the "[as] anime would do better if they actually advertised it" statement people keep brainlessly spreading around (that's complete nonsense, and you can see the proof in my Thread Memorial). Still, every minute of it was pure enjoyment for me. That's what it is to be professional.
Now that I've said that: feel free to use any of my posts/statements in any of your future-statements and posts (most can be found in the Thread Memorial). Especially for using them on people who continue to spread misinformation, like people who still say things such as:
-"Lack of advertising is why [as] anime fails."
-"All new anime from Youtube will boost ratings. Everyone will watch it and like it. ^.^"
-"Death Note is intelligent."
You all have my permission. I only say "permission" so that nobody will accuse you of ripping me off or being a "WINBACK clone." Trust me, there's gold in those mines, and it should be shared with everybody. No, no, you don't have to thank me.
It's time for the final stretch: good luck to all of the future topics, because you’ll need it. As pointed-out earlier, I don’t think you all will have much flexibility in the types of intellectual discussions that you’ll be allowed to make. AD is not ready for someone to stand-out and question a few things, let alone offer a nice batch of cynicism to change up the conformities.
I'm talking about anyone, not just me. I am by no means saying I was the ONLY good topic creator (proof of that is also in my Thread Memorial). I feel bad that you all will have to stick to the same types of overdone discussions. Talking about Japanese Pop openings, Motoko’s outfits and sexuality, low class fan-fiction with zero-consistency in the actual characters that they are about (every anime chick always ends up being a skank or a lesbian or something), Orihime’s chest, Riku’s rape being hilariously funny (among other rape-scenes involving female victimization), and all of the female fanclubs consisting of horny young men who’ve never even touched a girl. Have fun with all of that. It's no wonder why you guys enjoy typing words improperly and ending them with “y” and “h”: it’s the most variety you guys can get here.
Here's a note: If any of you have any arguments, complaints, or statements in regards to any of my "bias" accusations above, that are along the lines of “you are wrong, and here’s why”, then save your e-breath. Not only is it gonna be hard to convince me of that after all of the factual evidence/comparisons that I’ve presented, but I simply won’t be around to reply to it. Let it go, because I’m going to let it go the moment I finish this post.
I have one, final request: Keep my thread about the anime industry alive. Not for me, but for others. I think that beyond the personal expedition to identify with the person making the rant (me), that there’s some clarity in there, in both the writing and the investigation of whether-or-not the industry is really in trouble, and how to deliver the message. The important part of the thread isn’t even really about me. I think it’s safe to say that there are still certain people who need to see the message that that story demonstrates if they truly give a crap about anime. I think deep down inside, you all know that too. That’s all I ask.
I’ll bump it one last time, and that bump will be my FINAL POST with a message to every single individual within the AD community, which I'll take care of later. Come see what I say to YOU (yes, you, the person reading this).
That’s it for this thread. I’ve gotta finish up in a few other topics. After that, I have plenty of other places to be that could use a hero. So until the next time: enjoy what you got left; it won’t be here forever.
This rant is far more about what I’ve said, and not about who I am, or why I’m departing. Remember that, when you think about what you’ve read just now.

- Previously I had said here that WINBACK was one of the best posters on AD, but I gravely mistaken. WINBACK is the best poster on the entirety of the boards by a large margin for an appallingly diverse number of reasons. Some of these being his capacity to actually make a point in his posts, the readable typing style, and of course his cynical, moderately condescending tone to everyone who isn't WINBACK. His departure is a major loss for all of us, whether they will admit it or not. ~ Tryble

- I know you think we should be accepting of everyone new, regardless of what an asswipe he/she is, but I'm sad to say that's not how things work, my "friend." You think we should give a rat's ass about you because you claim you can use proper spelling and grammar? Give me a break. This is the internet; if I judged everyone based on their spelling and grammar, I'd have two friends (and no, you certainly wouldn't be one of them). The fact of the matter is that people are going to recognize (and perhaps ever respect) you on the boards if you can somehow find a way of working around that enormous ego of yours and start actually contributing to the place without belittling everyone. So until you can do that, just shut the **** up and stop talking about how we should be more accepting. Cadillac out! - CowboyCadenza
- wow! youre already known and youre just a shady cool! umm... i dont know much about you except that i heard youre like all obbssed with grammer and spelling and stuff, but you seem pretty nice to me, i dont hate you, although i dont really know you all that well, HEY! lets be friends! yay! (if you can put up with my bad gramar and spelling and stuff) i dunno you dont seem like an ass to me, but then again who does? - cid
- "pefect, like me?"...don't go around saying that. Everyone has faults, so no one can be truly perfect. Antagonist. This guy is the Second Coming of Zeni. Dark_Vice is a true protagonist! - SLiK
- Er...why are the spelling, grammar, and dialect blurbs all in quotes? - Q_chan

- If it's any consolation, your efforts have got somebody (yours truly) interested in checking out anime of days long ago. The board won't be the same without you. - moat
- Good luck getting that job with youtube. And continuing your fight for justice and stuff out there in the mean streets. I'll think of you whenever I see two sweaty muscly men going at it. Also, I totally called that Engrishified Logan thing. Hacha. - Cille
