- At one point, Tristan sings 'I love you, you love me, we're a happy family'. 'I Love You, You Love Me' is a song from the children's TV show Barney & Friends.
- Solomon Muto says 'who do you think you are, Rocky Balboa' when Joey asks if he doesn't even get a training montage. Rocky Balboa is the main character of a film series about a boxer, known for its training montages.
- The episode title, 'Rocky VII' is also a reference to the Rocky series, which has six movies.
- When Yugi inserts the video tape, Solomon says 'I just hope it's not one of those cursed video tapes that are all the rage these days'. When Pegasus appears on screen, he starts off by saying 'Seven days...'. Both are references to Ring, a Japanese horror film about a cursed video tape that causes everybody who watches it to die seven days later.
Notes
- Yugi says Super Special Awesome for the first time in this episode. It later became his catchphrase.
