Jo Nah grew up on the rough and tumble planet Rimbor. When his teen-aged friends, decided to risk their lives for kicks by buzzing Space Dragons, Jo tried to stop them. He accidentally got swallowed by an Ultra-Energy Beast. When he realized he had absorbed energy from the beast, he was able to locate the energy in different parts of his body, giving him different super-powers. With these new powers, Jo was able to escape the beast and return home. Jo used his powers to help his friends that were involved in high-risk behavior with the gangs on Rimbor. Eventually, he met the Legionaire Phantom Girl, who liked him right away, and decided to try out for the Legion of Super-Heroes.
