[edit] Lyrics

"Never fear the riflemen" she told me
as we saw the cattle guns and men
lead by Everett Shaw they stood on the horizon
Shaw drew his gun and came down closing in
He had a Smith & Wesson made of steel
but I knew his heart was made of tin
so I stared him down and shot him dead
and then I hit the open trail again

Losing sleep from standing in the rain
Losing sleep but I'm so tired of standing there in
vain

there'll be no more tears towards heaven
casting all my fears to Spain
Marching on in fours and sevens
had enough of all this pain

in Juarez I met a man named Taylor
who'd been a robber and a cheater since way back when
he befriended us and acted as our cover
but when I turned my back he proved to be no friend
he set me up to steal my boots and take my money!!
but I found out and I wished to see him dead
So I caught him sneaking out through the back door
and I put a piece of steel thru his head!!

Losing Sleep from standing in the rain
losing sleep up I'm so tired of standing there in vain

there'll be no more tears towards heaven
casting all my fears to Spain
marching on in fours and sevens
make a stand, hey hey hey yeah
watch me slip away
watch me slip away
watch me slip away
watch me slip away
watch me slip away
watch me slip awaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy

"Tears Toward Heaven."
Written by Dave Barbe
Performed by Cowboy Mouth (Paul Sanchez, John Thomas Griffith, Fred LeBlanc
and Steve Walters)
>From the Cowboy Mouth album, Mouthing Off Live.
Tabbed by Tom Barcellona (tdb(at)usa(dot)com)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, here is my stab at it. This is easily one of my favorite songs,
especially with Fred singing it. I'm pretty confident that the tab is
accurate, but the lyrics I'm not sure about. This is the tab for the Cowboy
Mouth version, so the original Mercyland version may be different.
(Mercyland being the original band that wrote the song.) There are two
guitars playing on the CM version (Sanchez and Griffith) so I tried to tab
out as best as possible. If you have two guitars, have one stress the top
two B and E strings, and have the second play the full chords, emphasizing
the bass notes. You really have to hear the song to get the timing right,
because there are several pauses that I can't tab out here. The lyrics are
wrong, so if you have the correct lyrics, or even a better take on them,
PLEASE EMAIL THEM TO ME!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notes:
-Key: G (or at least that's what I solo in)
-(?) on the end of a lyric = not sure of the words in that line.
-The way I play the song, all of the C,G chords are like this:

E---3-3-3-3-3
B---3-3-3-3-3
G---0-------0
D---2-------0
A---3-------2
E---x-------3

    C G

If you're playing with one guitar, then add emphasis on the top two B and E
strings on the upstroke.

Ok, now the song.

[Intro]

E---3-3-3-3-3
B---3-3-3-3-3
G---0-------0
D---2-------0
A---3-------2
E---x-------3

    C G

(hit this five times, holding the G chord for several beats before starting
again. Rest of the band kicks in on the fifth beat.)

Then, continue that for another four measures, then:

[verse]

          D G A
