[edit] Childhood & Education

The woman who became known in Knoxville as The Iron Mayor started out life in a way that was odd politically. Her Mother and Father moved to Knoxville and attended the University of Tennessee as students .Ironically they were both from the city of Muroran in Japan which would later become a Sister City to Knoxville. They fell in love with Knoxville in general, and American in particular and soon settled in the area. About a year after they gained their citizenship Their daughter Hiroko was born in University of Tennessee Medical center @ Knoxville. Hiroko's life was that of a normal child her own age. Until her Mother developed Breast Cancer Young Hiroko went to her Parent's homeland of Japan twice. Here Parents enrolled her in Grace Christian Academy where she was educated when not working at the motel her parents bought shortly after she went into Private School. She was set to attend Parochial School in Knoxville for high school but things changed in her life. Her Mother was stricken with Breast Cancer and the privilege of her attending private school soon became to much of a strain on the family. As her mother was fighting Cancer her father sold their motel and as that money was quickly being burned through and his salary as the manager of what was once his own motel was no longer able to make ends meet he committed Suicide when Hiroko was a Sophomore and her mother was struggling with her cancer. Junior year in High School and Senior year, while other girls held the benefit of free time with boys, proms, and cheerleaders Hiroko struggled to be the full time wage earner for her family and graduate High School which she did. Towards her Senior year in High School her Family in Japan were able to send small amounts of money to help.

Using her skills she worked in a variety of restaurants in the Knoxville area while going to Vocational School where she earned a Degree in Hotel / Motel and Restaurant Management. What Money she didn't spend on her school was used to support herself and her mother. Her Mother saw her daughter graduated but did not live much after her graduation to see her later professional and Personal Sucess.

[edit] Early Career

Hiroko faced without her mothers support knew she had given up much as the dutiful daughter and now sought to earn the kind of life her parents would have wanted for her. She saved up money and became a popular site at many banks with a variety of small business loans. Finally one banker took a chance on her. Bill Fox signed her first business loan, unknown that a friendship would begin and go beyond that into a 16 year marriage.

The Fox's Den was a fusion restaurant with both traditional Japanese and southern dishes, as well as Dishes that were southern spins on Traditional Japanese dishes and Japanese Spins on Traditional Southern Dishes. It looked by the end of year two The Fox's Den would fold. But in month 18 The Profits started coming in and by year 5 Hiroko wrote off the loan. And asked her Banker William for her first date. It was during this time Hiroko began to play Poker in a Semi-Professional setting When she was making steady profits at her Restaurant.

[edit] Political Career

Hiroko became a successful business woman and was courted by Democrats to run for the Knoxville city council. They however were very Surprised when Hiroko entered the primaries for City Council, as a Republican and defeated the Incumbent. She then moved on to win the General election. At her campaign victory party she proposed to her husband Bill. Whom she gave a son shortly after that.

[edit] Knoxville City Council

On the Knoxville City Council Hiroko earned a reputation as fighting for the rights of property owners, keeping local taxes and fees as low as possible and fighting for a sound fiscal house for the city. She was not against the city stimulating the economy but was hesitant to go that way.

[edit] Mayor of Knoxville

Her tough financial attitude and her willingness to get tough on Crime lead to her election as mayor of Knoxville, soon known as the Iron Mayor.

Mayor Fox fought for the taxpayer, making the city attractive to business, and being tough on crime. As with the beginning of her political career the Knox county democratic party had decided to target Hiroko for every election, even when they would not be competitive races.

[edit] United States Senator

Hiroko before the end of her Second Term as Mayor was elected to the 2nd Tennessee District as a United States Congresswoman. Fighting her way through an incumbent and through the democrats coming after her. She was later appointed to fill a vacancy shortly after the death of Bob Corker before he was sworn in, and before the laws were changed on Senate elections. In the Senate Hiroko Fox while an opponent of the Bush compromise plan on Immigration was willing to draft amendments that were highly draconian and made it out of the senate. She has made a major effort to advocate for her beliefs in the debate making her one of two senators to vote against the minimum wage increase, a matter she said would ?Do nothing to help poor people, and do much to hurt the economy.? She also was able to make a nice public diplomacy tour of her second return trip to Japan to visit her family since the death of her Parents.

She has tried to build a strong set of social connections between members of the House and Senate of both parties creating some sorts of bonds between them.

Hiroko, or Kitsune a nickname she had even before marrying a man with the last name of Fox has had a political career dominated by struggles against the establishment and her own personal 'Up by your bootstraps' ethos.
