[edit] Biography

Waugh was born on 20 May 1950 in Cooperstown, NY, where he excelled in athletics and academics, earning a scholarship to Harvard College and graduating with a degree in journalism. An Ivy League graduate with nearly forty years of experience in the press, starting with his work at the Crimson in 1969 as an undergrad at Harvard College. Shot to fame at the Boston Globe, was known as the "Peter Gammons of Washington news", but was coaxed back to the Empire State after nine years with the Globe.

Mr. Waugh has just celebrated his 30th year working for the Journal, and was considered one of the last great giants in the print media upon retirement in 2012. He has earned Pulitzer Prizes at all levels of work for the Journal, from reporting to editorials to administration, in addition to two Peabody Awards at the Globe. In the fall of 2012, Waugh retired as Editor-In-Chief of the Journal, citing a desire to enjoy retirement, "if only for a year or two". He currently resides in Cooperstown, New York, and is the founder of Back to Main Street PAC, a new citizen's action group aimed at encouraging civic awareness towards state and regional issues.

In 2014, Waugh was asked by New England Senator Joseph Salazar-Portela to be his running mate for Northeast Governor. He faces New York businessman Chaim Solomon in the Lieutenant Governor's race. But Portela mysteriously withdrew from the race just before it began, leaving Waugh to run for the Governorship against the better-funded and better-prepared Stewart. By all accounts, Waugh is expected to lose by a landslide.

Mr. Waugh has been married to the former Linda Baines since 1975, and has four married children, Chris Jr. (age 39), Mary Lynne (35), Matt (32) and Sarah (29). He divides his time between Cooperstown and Manhattan, New York, and vacations in Sarasota, Florida on winters.
