Before

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Charles Gunn was never really on the right side of the law. In fact, more often than not, he was on the wrong side. More or less a hoodlum, Charles never really had to step up to the plate of heroics until some very bad dudes started moving in on his neighborhood.

Vampires.

Gathering up all the manpower he could, he became the leader of a rag-tag organization of teen vampire hunters that were out to protect their neighborhood and fight for both their lives and their territory. Things became even more hectic, though, when Gunn and his gang crossed paths with Angel, the vampire with a soul.

He and Angel got off to a rocky start, but mutual interest in destroying vampires brought them closer, especially since Gunn lost his sister to those vile creatures of the night. The two formed a kinship, becoming allies interested in the same cause. As time went on, Gunn found himself assisting Angel Investigations more and more. To the point where he found himself forced to choose between them and the Old Neighborhood.

Reluctantly, Gunn chose to fight the ultimate good fight between good and evil and signed onto Angel Investigations full-time.

Adventures were many, possible deaths were often, but Charles persevered. Which is saying something, considering that bad things tend to happen to the members of Angel Investigations quite often.

Of course, this was all his life before the incident...

After

Now, considering his former employment, Gunn's used to vortexes and portals and otherwordly shit happening. So when he got plucked up and thrown through time and space into a vast new world, under the rainbow, well he certainly didn't do much squawking about it. There was hardly any at all, to be honest about things.

He found himself in Los Angeles, the first time. Which wasn't much different than the Los Angeles he'd left. Of course, the lack of vampires and demons was somewhat of a culture shock, but he got over it. In fact, he got so over it, that he started up his own private investigation firm, Gunn Investigations, which never really took off. That was a fate somewhat decided by the powers, it's speculated, as he found that he had another calling.

Playboy. That's right, after a conversation with an old acquaintance, Gunn found himself in a limo and on his way to the Playboy Mansion. That's right, Gunn was hired as a major player in the Playboy Empire. A job that has more perks than anything else. Literally.

Now, with a stunning new office, a giant paycheck and more women than he could ever possibly want, Charles Gunn has taken to his new life with bells on. He still does the private investigator thing every once in a while, just for the thrill of it.

Personal Relationships

Unfortunately, Gunn's not the best with relationships. Especially when it comes to getting and keeping a girlfriend. He used to go out with a follow associate of Angel Investigations, but things changed and she chose the crazy white man over him. Something that Gunn's still not fully over, but he's getting there.

Gunn has an interesting relationship with Faith, but the chances of it turning into something more are slim. So far it's just a professional friendship, but who knows what lies in the cards for the two vampire hunters.

Other than that, Gunn is currently on a search for love. In some form or fashion. Rumor has it that he's tired of hopping from Playmate to Playmate, so there could be love blossoming in the future for the loaded weapon.

Gunn-isms

"I don't need advice from some middle class white dude that's dead!"

"Everybody dies. I'm just trying to make sure that when we die, we stay dead."

"Man, this is so much harder than it looks on Batman."

"Woo hoo!! My God! They told me it was true, but I didn't believe 'em. But damn, here it is! Evil white folks really do have a Mecca."

"Wait, are you saying, … is he gonna sing? Oh God, is Angel gonna sing?"

"That would also explain the precision, and the athleticism. I mean, some of those jumps...You know, I was cool before I met y'all."

Inside Scoop

Gunn's mainly being taken from Seasons 1 - 3 of Angel. He's still got his gangsta' 'tude and cool factor, since he was seriously much better as the hip muscle than as a neutered lawyer. Anyway, Alonna's death still haunts his nightmare's and he's got issues with being Fred-less, but that's neither here nor there. He's moving on.

Interestingly enough, Gunn's somewhat interested in Faith. He's not sure what it is about her or if he's just got some inner bald black man thing for her like a certain Sunnydale High principal, but he'd seriously love to start something with her. Wishful thinking, though, considering how high of a pedestal she's on compared to his former conquests. No offense.

Gunn, though, as elements from the entire run of the series thrown in. He's heavily business-minded, thus capable of helping Playboy stay on top of the proverbial porn pile. He remembers the events of the entire show and even suspects that he was supposed to have died.

Oh and another thing? He hates Wesley with nine fiery passions.

Recent Developments

Lots of things have went down with Faith and he doesn't actually work for the Playboy Empire anymore. Gunn has returned to his private investigating roots and ass kicking style.

He hasn't particularly had any cases, but he's surviving. And he doesn't even miss the high profile lifestyle. No more sellin' out.
