Terra Alternativa

Terra Alternativa is a speculative evolution project made by Carlos Miguel Albuquerque. It is basically a parallel Earth where dinosaurs never evolved.

In the absence of dinosaurs, the dominant animal clades on Terra Alternativa differ from those in our world. True mammals never evolved, as in our world they evolved due to the evolutionary pressure caused by dinosaurs that made synapsids decline to the point of that only the small mammaliformes, the ancestors of the mammals, had survived; therefore, synapsid cynodonts took over the niches of mammals. Birds also never evolved, as maniraptor dinosaurs were their ancestors; pterosaurs, on the other hand, without competition from birds, became dominant in the air; still, they now have to compete with the flying cynodonts. Several old lineages, like choristoderes, are still alive, while some declining groups like sphenacodonts are considerably more common.
