Quest of the Coin

From Stormravengaming

Patron: Geolane the wizard in Zoa

Contents

Task

Collect each of the following reagents and deliver them to Halan in Zoa:

  • A diamond touched by death
  • A blue dragon's breath
  • A pint of devil's blood spilled by a coward, mingled with the coward's own blood

Terms

Geolane agreed to pay a total of 2500 gp to each hero. With the completion and presentation of the finished coin, Geolane has paid his debt to the heroes in full.

Development

Diamond Touched by Death (Complete)

The diamond was found in a crypt of the Hiereed family, north of Zoa. It was embedded into the skeletal frame of an undead creature that inhabited the crypt. The heroes destroyed the creature and recovered the diamond. It has been delivered to Halan.

Blue Dragon's Breath (Complete)

The blue dragon resides in the Khydoban Desert. In return for his breath, he demanded that the heroes cleanse his lair of the mites that were hiding in the walls and stealing his treasure. The heroes slew some of the mites and convinced the rest to relocate to a safer, distant location. Once the dragon was convinced that the mites were indeed gone and the entrances to his lair were sealed, he made good on his agreement, releasing his lightning breath into a rod prepared for the purpose. The rod has been delivered to Halan.

Pint of Devil's Blood (Complete)

A wizard named Milead in the city of Xaruum, north of Zoa, uses devils as guardians. The heroes defeated a hellcat on his grounds, then persuaded a coward named Jonathan to knife it and spill its blood. The blood was captured and delivered to Halan, who used it to complete the coin.

The Coin

The entire process of forging the coin involved the use of black magic. In the end the heroes attempted to prevent the coin's completion, but their efforts were too little, too late. The coin is now complete, and it is clearly an evil artifact. Halan's final words to the heroes were a warning not to touch the coin and risk their souls, for it is wholly evil. The heroes have hidden it within the pages of a book (Stonework of Zoa), now in Thandlin's possession.

Captain Heng had a magical glove that permits the safe handling of the coin; Thandlin now also has this glove. The others have promised to slay Thandlin and divvy up his loot if he turns to evil. This is purely intended as a selfless service to society as a whole.
