Pre-Deluge history and biography

Alexander Harris, "Xander" as he is known to friends, is no stranger to weirdness or fighting for his life. Growing up in the town of Sunnydale, California (called La Boca del Infierno, literally "the mouth of hell," by the original Spanish settlers) gave him an early acquaintance with the supernatural and the paranormal. Sunnydale sat on top of a hellmouth, a center of massive supernatural activity. Ironically enough, despite the high mortality rate and the numerous graveyards, disappearances and "gang related" violence in a town the size of Sunnydale, the majority of the citizens went about their everyday lives blissfully unaware that those things that made up children's nightmares, horror movies and went "bump in the night" really did exist.

For the first fifteen years of his life, Xander was among those of the naïve and unaware. Though his life was not the happiest, both parents were alcoholics and his father was verbally abusive, his happiness, center and support came from his best friends, Willow and Jesse. Then Buffy Summers moved to town. Beautiful, blonde Buffy, the petite dynamo with a secret identity: she was a vampire slayer. In the course of a few days, Xander's entire world was turned upside down: his best friend Jesse was turned into a vampire, and later staked by Xander, and he learned the truth about Sunnydale and the world that he lived in.

Xander, along with Willow, spent the next seven years fighting vampires and battling evil alongside Buffy and her Watcher, Rupert Giles. They called themselves the "Scooby Gang" and stopped several apocalypses from happening. Although Xander was not super powered like Buffy, magickally gifted like Willow, or even filled with knowledge like Giles, he was an integral part of the team. As Buffy once observed, Xander "clocked more field hours than any Watcher."

In 2003, the Scooby Gang, along with other "Slayers in Training" went up against the ultimate evil, a creature known only as The First Evil. Xander survived but lost Anya, his former fiancé (and a vengeance demon), whom he was still passionately and deeply in love with. The battle turned Sunnydale into a lovely crater, which on 2006 earth has come to be called Sunnydale Lake.

An additional fallout from the battle against the First Evil unleashed the power of the Slayer, turning hundreds of girls the world over into vampire slayers. Xander, like all the other survivors from Sunnydale, set off to find girls who were now slayers. His mission was to provide them information and guidance, while letting them know that they would be given a choice that Buffy and those who came before her never had: they had a choice as to whether or not this would be their destiny.

Xander's mission led him to Africa in search of new slayers. He occasionally leaves for London or Cleveland, OH, the secondary and primary headquarters of the new Watcher's Council, but he always returns to Africa to train and work with "his slayers." He was in Africa when The Deluge came, and witnessed the disappearance of one his slayers and the disintegration of another. Convinced that the First Evil had regrouped in a few short years, Xander immediately grabbed a flight to Cleveland, with his slayers, the ones who wished to come, along with him.

There slayers and watchers poured over tome after tome trying to figure out the source of the Deluge. Questions were asked and it was soon learned that not only had humans suffered a terrible fate, but so had many demons and vampires. And there were equal number of "displaced" demons to go along with the odd displaced person who showed up after the Deluge. His good friends, Buffy, Willow, Andrew, and even Faith, followed their own leads in the far corners of the world while Xander "held down the fort" in Cleveland.

Post-Deluge events

Then Fate's Handmaiden came, demonstrating to Xander that there were some things that even slayer healing could not handle. He watched as one by one the new young slayers, as well as the Watchers in Cleveland, succumbed to the terrible disease. As the government broke down, Xander received a last communication from Willow. She did not reveal whether or not she had the terribly fatal disease, only that she'd engineered a way to turn it on the vampire and demon populace as well and level the playing field for the surviving humans. The only reason Xander believes she might have been successful is because he's not seen as many demons and vampires as there should have been given the small number of humans left in the world.

Xander waited for weeks to hear any word from the outside after the madness and final disintegration wore down. He'd buried each Watcher and Slayer in the private cemetery behind the Council House in Cleveland, and went through the motions of living. Even while there was still electricity, there was no word from Giles in London, Buffy in Italy, Faith in Australia or Willow in South America. Finally he gave into the desire to find other people, refusing to believe that he might be the only person left alive in the world, and refusing to believe that his friends are all dead.

He packed what little he needed. Years on the road taught Xander to travel light, and in the end his packs contained weapons – a crossbow, stakes, and a semi-automatic pistol that he acquired from a gun store along with ammunition – clothes, a few spell books, some carpentry tools, and a picture of the original Scooby Gang. Xander has no idea where he's going, but he is allowing instinct to be his guide, hoping that he will someday find out he's not alone in the world.

He's driving a deserted Saturn VUE, surprised each time that he's actually able to fill up at a gasoline station, although he figures his luck will run out soon and to that effect, he's attached a mountain bike to the VUE. Xander figures that he might even trade up to a motorcycle as he makes his trek.

Xander is just shy of six-feet tall, measuring five-feet eleven inches. He has dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and wears an eye patch over his left eye which he lost in a fight against an evil minister shortly before the battle with the First Evil.
